Look at his full quote
I did. If he merely kept it about the indisputable fact that Disney is making money hand over fist, thus giving studios the luxury of taking risks on more artistic films, there's not a negative word I could say about it. He chose to use BP to prove a point when that same energy wasn't there from the beginning. I've seen this ploy before. It didn't work before, it's not gonna work for the House of Mouse.

I'll ask this, if Black Panther did Ant Man numbers, would he be saying this? On an unrelated note, are you looking forward to the third Antman movie?:mjlit:

He used it as a point because it was their best picture nominee, it's not like he brought up Captain Marvel too. He also mentioned Taika, Scarjo, RDJ, Boseman etc

It's really not that deep

It not being that deep is Scorcese's point:mjlit:

I was going to question what it meant when BP was the only film everyone was using as a counterpoint.

BP stands out because it was different, because it seemed like Marvel went "Coogler, do what you do:hubie:"

But can that claim be made for the majority of the movies?
As I've said earlier....they gave Coogler freedom (His DP, his composer, production designer)

Just think they brought his crew in....but to play in Marvel's sandbox.

His comments makes me think he'll let him operate outside the sandbox for the sequel. :ehh:

Was Coogler allowed to direct the action for BP? Not being snarky, genuinely asking.

He did the Casino scene and the waterfall fights.

He did the car chase...buuuuttttt they shot it in Atlanta. And he never went to Korea to shoot the highway scenes. 2nd unit did

He shot the final fight scne. However, in the b roll scenes you can see the actors in their outfits. Marvel decided to use CGI model replacements instead of the actual actors fighting in some shots/maybe all?

Big battle was Coogler/2nd unit. I think the struggle with that scene is more or so the location. The geography of the battle wasn't strong in terms of how it was filmed. Probably would have been better served using more hand to hand combat instead of reliance on the suit's powers also.

So....him bringing up BP, the MCU film that recently won 3 Oscars as a case against Marvel films not being 'cinema' is him weaponizing it and calling people racist?

I don't even know if BP is a top 5 MCU film, even if it's your favorite, there is nothing so unique about it that it somehow separates itself from the rest of the brand in genre or quality on some meaningful scale. CW, IM1, Cap 1&2, AM1, HC, FFH, every Avengers film, even AOU (which is dope to me, despite glaring flaws and probably the least dope on it's artistic merits) are all well done, had great performances and were great to experience in the fukking cinema.

I'm all for propping up Coogler and BP as a great outing for the MCU, but this notion that it's so head and shoulders above the rest of the films and qualifies as cinema and the rest don't is some pretentious bullshyt lol. And he was right to go to the bat for the creatives involved in these films, it's disrespectful to them.
