:wow: This is true. I think admitting the truth is too hard. The author of the article got halfway there. She acknowledged systemic racism played a factor in her thought that "marriage is bad for black women" but the solution isn't to succumb to the outcomes of white supremacy. It's to resist by marrying and finding ways to keep that institution strong for all of its benefits

I think it's a coping mechanism. Instead of suffering because she realize and admit that she missed the marriage bus, for instance, a woman will just say that marriage is impossible anyway or useless.

It's very dangerous for the group because it weakens the legitimacy of the institution. Young girls reading this might be like : "Ok, let's forget about marriage, maybe she's right". But they will have regrets at some point and the community will suffer of the lack of strong families.

It's basically individual strategies (and egoism) hurting the group.

Yessir. That's a great way of summing up the article. Most black women won't make the same errors that the author did during the early part of her life. Rather, the article should be looked at as a cautionary tale.

The two most important decisions you can make in this life is: Your initial career; your long-term partner. Plan accordingly. Of course, keep in mind that you may need to be flexible but have what you want at the end of the day in sight. If you want a partner who has 'X' characteristics, do things which would allow you to be within an environment to find this partner etc.

Damn, is it that difficult?

After reading the article in it's entirety, I don't have a problem with it. Normally I wouldn't give this shyt a click but it was hard for me to understand if I disagreed with part or all of it.

The excepts imply she is looking for excuses or trying to point fingers, but she actually puts a good point up:

Black people who have so many things working against them, educated or not, potentially give up some benefits by getting married if there is a large income disparity. This is gap in benefits is increased if there is student loan debt.

She has a lot of student debt and doesn't make a lot of money. She can get more benefits on taxes, loan repayment, and health insurance, etc by not getting married and still living with her partner and raising the kid together. If they marry she gives that up and her husband also becomes liable for her debt. So this protects him and the child from her in a sense.

At least that's how I read it. She's basically the other half of the GMB equation :ohhh:

Black people do have odds against them, but you increase those odds by engaging in single-parent child-raising. Also, a marriage is a partnership in nearly all-senses. If she isn't ready to get married, fine...but why have a child and make a child suffer for your errors?

Marry a women with 50k followers on Instagram, chest tats, and 35 bodies brehs

They always try to shame men into marrying these worthless broads. Never ever do they tell the women to be marriage material. Don't get fat, don't have kids, don't hoe around. Say any of that and someone will bite your head off.
These broads deserve to be lonely forever , they earned it

If that means I have to forfeit the fairy tale wedding, then so be it. If that means I must bear the brand of “black single mother,” then so be that, too. I give you, America, permission to label me as you see fit. I long stopped believing in American dreams.":mjlol:

:camby: she stopped believing in the american dream cause she probably thought that nikka who knocked her up and fed her all those american dreams of living together, having 2 kids, white fence and enjoying life as one, was going to be her american dream.....she was nothing to that nikka except for ass and now she blaming everyone else except for her decision in mates

But she's currently engaged to the man who impregnated her. She's just hesitant to marry.

If they get married, then they don’t qualify for government assistance likely. :mjpls:
That was part of her reasoning, Obamacare access as a single mother and the tax benefits.

She's not attractive and she looks like she doesn't shave :lolbron:

She's probably annoying too, especially if she's writing shytty thinkpieces like this. Of coruse no man wants to marry her :francis:

:dahell: this is your thread and you didn't read the article?

Dude, she says the kid is in a two-parent household, but she thinks being legally married isn't the wave for them and people in similar positions financially.
