Garvey did mention that there were a lot of white supporting Blacks in the US that needed to stay there instead of going to Africa as they'd be detrimental to the continent. And in that sense he was right. He just underestimated how many there were.

Because in the US probably 80% of Black people suffer from stockholm syndrome and like being around whites despite the lynchings, despite slavery, and despite the endless racial terror.

And they even fought during the Civil Rights movement for the *right* to hand their children over to whites in white run schools. Which is insane because you couldn't pay Jewish people enough to hand their kids over to nazis at schools that they run.

Conversely, Rastafarians admire Garvey, but their beliefs contradict Garveyism. To Rastafarians, Garvey is a prophet, although he never accepted this title. Further he repudiated their rituals, particularly the smoking of ganja. In an article titled 'The Dangerous Weed', published in Garvey's New Jamaican on August 13 1932, he explicitly condemned the use of ganja: “Ganja is a dangerous weed...We have come into contact with young and middle age men who have become a menace to society through the smoking of ganja.” Science has indeed confirmed Garvey's assertion, because ganja induces psychosis in some groups (Large et al 2011). Garvey may not object to the legalisation of ganja to facilitate scientific research, but he would find it untenable that Jamaicans actually take pride in smoking this herb for leisure.



In contrast to his modern acolytes, Garvey never affirmed culture nationalism. He held Obeah in low regard and had no desire in advancing backward practices on the premise that they are a part of African culture. Marcus Garvey's ideas are still relevant; however, if most Jamaicans understood them then they would definitely dump Garveyism.

What are you talking about? Every successful culture goes through a transition period of learning and adapting from more progressive and technologically advanced cultures. Should we really go back to practicing things like female circumcision? What about the practice of killing all the chiefs servants when the tribal chief dies?

The Japanese within the span of 50 years became one of the worlds preeminent powers after adapting elements of western culture. They did so while keeping and maintaining their own identity.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with acknowledging that. Or of keeping the useful elements found in other societies. This is how rapid advancement and industrialization was achieved in Asia.

There is a difference between adapting western ways into your OWN NATIVE culture and completely disowning your NATIVE culture for foreign WESTERN ones. Garvey wanted to do the latter......
