SF has turned into a rich person's city. A lot of tech/engineer/professional money, and most younger people have roomates.

This is why Oakland is gentrified as fukk now, because lot's of people commute to SF for the cheaper cost of living across the bay.

There's no way i'd live like a bum just to live in SF proper, although it is an amazing city and a lot of fun.

The problem is, most places outside of SF are boring as fukk. When I lived in the bay, i'd take the train into the city almost every weekend.

If you don't have a roommate, I hope you're pulling at least 100k a year and have no kids/CS. Otherwise

But seriously, all that nice weather and comfortability just ruins it for everyone. You got nearly 160 million people (half of America) living off of 4% of the land, mostly in coastal cities. If that was the case, I don't even want to be in Cali, even as a multi millionaire. That "nice weather" and artificial demand killed the incentive for me to move there.

Yeah, but them coming in and buying up all the land, on top of a growing population, makes things strained, in terms of the amount of resources. Hate to say it, but the population has to decrease and the wealth disparity has to end before cost of living spirals out of control.

And we all got mad saving accounts, hella money in 401K, have at least 1-2 sideline bytches, go out to eat and drink 2-3 times a week at expensive spots and lounges or able to, and have Kevin Hart and Chris Rock type sense of humor with strong mouthpieces and look down on those who don't...ohh and able to go on vacations at least twice a year and can easily take our main or sidelines with us...

The same ones living in those areas in SF and Manhattan/Brooklyn, be driving in luxury cars and dress themselves with exotic European clothing designers, talking about living paycheck to paycheck

A lot of people can't fathom living BELOW their means. Or being creative and non egotistical, like living with moms or living in a room in a nice neighborhood to stack $$$$ for a couple of years, and them come back with massive leverage on the financial end to buy/rent/invest comfortably.

I have a good friend who lives in NYC. Gross is 150K (including bonus potential).

After all taxes and deductions she nets 90K a year. She pays $3000/monthly for rent.

She says that she does well, and definitely doesn't seem to live above her means. She said, "If I wanna buy something, I can. But a lot of times, I don't."

She has her CPA, but doesn't actually do work that directly ties into that cert. (EDIT: VP, Internal Audit )

My brother lives in Houston, and I believe he pulls 60K gross. I believe his rent is $1100. He seems to be doing okay @ USPS.

You seem hellbent on your narrative that 120K is 120K no matter where you live in the US which is complete bullshyt. If you live in the Midwest/South 120K is more like 250K period. There is nothing in the South comparable to SF and Chicago is nowhere near as expensive, the rent in the Tenderloin (mixed income predominantly-immigrant neighborhood with huge permanent homeless population) is higher than it is to rent a new apartment near the Loop. fukk outta here tryna tell nikkas who live here how far money goes in the Bay

I think another issue in here when it comes to wages, is this idea that 6 figures means you're living lavishly. While making 100,000 dollars a year is a very good wage putting you in the upper echelons of earners in the country, it's a mistake to assume that it means you're out here eating out every night and going on vacations, buying luxury items. Not even going to get into the debt that most people earning that much had to incur to get the degree towards that job.
