Maybe Pete Rock didn't want him to use his legendary beat to save face after that trash Lazers? Because clearly he is going for the 'golden era hip hop beat' to try to be like 'AYO IM STILL HIP HOP BREHS!'

So Mr. Cheeks can use the beat but Lupe can't?

Mr. Cheeks - Reminisce '03 - YouTube
Pete Rock said:
No disrespect to lupe fiasco and i like him alot but TROY should be left alone. Feel so violated, the beat is next to my heart and was made Outta anguish and pain. When it's like that it should not be touched by no one
and Lupe already did this with Wale & Kardinal Offishal:

He didn't go at all of them, then, did he?

A dude who built his career of sampling is hating on a guy who sampled him.

let's be honest, this is about Pete not getting money he thinks he deserves.

The issue is..Pete aint keeping it 100. You cant smile in someone face when they bring something to you..then not back that man when it goes public.

thats the same way I feel about it, but lets wait for Pete's side.

I mean his "other side"

and yes Lupe lied about alot of stuff surrounding Lasers but dude seemed sincere as all fukk...ill just wait.

Why did Lupe desperately need to use the TROY beat though?

I used to be fan, but between the wack music and the lame beefs I'm done.

I think Heav passing might have changed how Pete felt about the track. I think thats his prerogative. Also all these examples are people rapping over the actual instrumental not someone remaking the beat.

I just listened to the Lupe track and he did it all wrong. The song starts off "first off say peace to..." Pete Rock and CL Smooth you dumbass. Then he doesnt shout them out in the whole song or the outro. Nor is the song about similar subject matter (but the topic is a good one). Basically it comes off like he just stole the beat/sample.

:wtf:

Uh....no offense but you obviously don't know what's going on. Pete Rock don't own the sample, so this has nothing to do with money. There is no way this could be spun, into "Pete Rock wanted money from this". Tom Scott owns the sample.

Secondly, Pete Rock not wanting someone to use this particular sample, has nothing to do with "hating on a guy that sampled him". #1 Pete Rock actually had to go dig for that sample, 20 years ago....before Wikipedia, before the internet, before Sample Database. So yeah it's lazy as fukk to use the same sample. #2, "TROY" is a tribute to his dead homie....so that's why Pete didn't want him to use it. He already explained this in detail on Twitter.

Pete did not produce Reminisce '03

OK but Pete Rock and CL are on the track. And like I said he may have changed the way he feels about the track and how it should be used if at all. The Lupe track is in no way a homage to the original song.

Cause in the interview he clearly said he reached to to Pete and Pete was cool with it..so what's the motivation AFTER u give someone the ok to do something?..Pete made it seem like Lupe aint reach out to him at all..

The interview clearly said that he reached out to Pete........but where exactly did it explain why he changed his mind? Because he did. Lupe isn't using the beat now. I made my comment based on my assumption of why Pete Rock changed his mind, something that was NOT addressed in the interview.
