Nah there has to be more to it. If you are refusing to pay the 2nd or 3rd best player in the league then who are you going to pay?

They just didn’t want Luka on the team anymore…

It was about the money. Quote me, put me in a sig, etc.

This move screams "We're gonna be cheap and not pay him"

Reactions after the Finals tell a story. Windy and others were reporting that Boston hunting Luka every possession relentlessly should serve as a wakeup call for Luka that he needed to be in shape and give more effort defensively and stop crying to officials.

Season starts, he's still not conditioned and gets a leg injury that has him out months. They just pulled the plug before that Supermax was offered because they didn't believe he was worth it. I guess people forgot about this.......

Even with your Defensive anchor AD you guys guys still needed a center….. now ya don’t have both :patrice:
And Luka is not great on defense :patrice:
I’m assuming the Lakers are not done trading because they need defensive pieces asap down low
We have two centers, but they are not on AD's level.

We still have Rui, Vanderbilt, and a few wings/guards who provide sufficient enough defense. We'll likely make another trade, but the idea that we need an elite big just to compete isn't all true either. We just need one who is serviceable and does the nooks and crannies in the paint and rebounding.

Aside from the Nuggets, Bucks, Lakers, and I guess you can say the Celtics, despite KP only playing in 2-3 finals games, since 2014, six other teams without an all-time big still went on to win the championship. Having a great big man is a plus, but it's not the deal breaker if other pieces on the team fit.

Why do y'all cats keep regurgitating this nonsense?

Luka was the best offensive player in the Finals, and he was producing offense on a higher volume and to a higher standard that nobody else was really in the conversation throughout those five games. Now, why is the onus on him to not only do that, but to then be this rock defensively too? Why isn't the finger pointed at the other players not playing to expectations on offense, and not playing good defense?

The Celtics weren't even hunting him like that, let alone it being the reason why the Mavs lost.

Them pulling the plug on the supermax ain't got shyt to do with his conditioning, or lack thereof. Don't fall for the bullshyt.
100% agree

Now who's gonna get Luka in shape :pachaha:
Luka always gets into basketball shape.

That's not the issue.

The issue is trying to convince him to rest his body during the offseason. That's the real mission. If he's going to continue playing hoops all year round, well, his body will age rapidly and he will become the new street clothes.

They don’t have any draft capital to begin with, it makes no sense how this trade even happen.

You're falling for the okey doke.

Luka is not nearly as bad on defense as folks make him out to be. He's improved notably on that side of the floor, but it's easy for folks to point out the times he's exposed or has lapses to use as confirmation bias, all because he exhausts himself on offense (which he is partly to blame for). But more to the point, there should be no hesistation on giving him the supermax. He's a generational player.

They won't be getting a player even remotely on his level anytime soon.
Conditioning and defense isn't the only issue with Luka. His immaturity with officiating is another thing the organization and his teammates were done with.

Add in that he's hurt and was out of shape while on the cusp of signing that Supermax, they were like, we straight.

You can't defend his antics with the refs. How many times does he ignore getting back on defense because he's arguing about the last play?
