You including Tampa Bay into it, St. Pete and Clearwater plus beaches? If we're talking strictly the city boundaries of Miami, I could maybe see it being overrated. Once you throw in the beaches and Coral Gables it's pretty tough to knock though.
I'm a life long Tampan and have extensive experience in South Florida.
- Spanish - depends on what part of town you're in, but yeah, it helps
- No real culture - don't agree with this at all. You have Hispanic culture, Wynwood, always music festivals and art exhibits in town, southern Miami/Key Biscayne have their own vibes, then you have the international globalized culture of the beaches
- Vain as hell - definitely. So it Tampa though. We're consistently ranked two of the most vain places in the country. It's because we have beautiful women plus warm weather so people don't need to wear much clothes year round and can show off...
- No real middle class - in the city proper you're probably right. If you include the suburbs, not so much
- Jobs are scarce - it depends on what you're trying to do and if you speak Spanish or not, but in general, the unemployment rate is higher than the country as a whole
- Economy is transient - not really sure what you mean by this.
- Weak attractions - Depends on what you're in to. It's a great area for water sports, you have the Everglades nearby, tons of nightclubs and world class shopping, busy beaches and also more secluded beaches, a strong food scene, strong arts scene.
Tampa is more chill than Miami, but once you go south of Kennedy Blvd. you'd be surprised how quickly Tampa gets thotty.
I think MIA is good for your 20's/early 30's, and then Tampa is better for actually raising a family.
if you remember that documentary let me know.. interested in watching.I saw a documentary that said Miami was basically built by Black people. And they were doing well until they built a highway or overpass that separated the city. I thought it was on netflix.
my boy used to work security at club bed and i knew the bouncer at club amnesia..i had too many epic nights on the beach back then. always end the night by grabbing some greasy ass slices of pizza from one of the spots
.
With the exception of the job market (there is one corporation here), cost of living/housing & the oversaturation of Hispanics/culture...
Miami is a fine city. Born, raised, & reside here.
You type like a faquh.
no.
Dudes gotta look beyond the beach and clubs. Miami is a dump and if you're black I don't know how you're enjoyed without being a lawyer, healthcare, or banking etc. Most of the jobs there are serivce jobs and even then the discrimination against non Spanish speakers is so real.Grew up in South Florida and have been to Miami several times for several reasons. Even stayed for a summer.
Miami is a cool place to visit, but as far as living there, it's . . . not for everybody. The people are absolutely moronic, but they think they're the smartest people on earth. Miami is like a Kardashian sister in the form of a city.
Can also confirm the posters who are upselling Tampa. There's a legit youthful energy in Tampa right now. If you want to move to a city in Florida, your best choices are Tampa or Orlando.
Yeah I can't live in flat areas like that. shyt is boring as fukk
Only NYC, cause that's my hometown
I rather live in mountain areas where outdoor activies are plentiful. Like Denver, Las Vegas, New Mexico, Arizona, Southern Cali, etc etc
Goat place for vacay
Great food
Dope nightlife
Plus scenery
