1998 was the year I graduated High School and one of the greatest years in Hip Hop Ever. I remember it like yesterday. If I had to rank who's year it was:

#1 . DMX (2 albums and a Movie)
#2 . Lauryn Hill (Miseducation smashed all genres)
#3 . Jay Z (Most at the end of 98 but he was on a lot of features and HKL blew)
#4 . Outkast (Aqumini was speical)
#5 . Big Pun (Capitol Punishment ended up Double Plat and got a grammy nod, 1st Latino to go Plat)

But there is no doubt X ran 98 mainly cause he dropped 2 albums. Before people could even get tired of "IDAHAH", "FOMFBOMB" was out with "Slippin" smashing stuff. It's crazy that was the only single from that album and it still went Triple. My most underrated album of 1998 was:

Not only was this Gangstarr's 1st "Gold" album. It actually put a dent in the pop charts debut at #6 on the charts and #1 on the Rap/RnB album charts. The album did not have a single pop song on it. All the songs were Hip Hop to it's core. Even "Royality" with KC and JoJo was hard.

Why are you talkin about 99-00 dikkhead? the title of this thread is clearly '98. In 98 DMX was a sideshow in Jay Z's tour. I listened to DMX heavy... until that 3rd album when I realized this nicca done released the same album three times. I see you fallin back though...

And Lupe shyts on that fat nicca... Lu was better than that nicca before he even released an album

I didn't fall back on anything kid. The fact that you trying to stretch JayZ's impact into something more than it really was at the time is laughable. Hell Master P even had a bigger year in 98 than JayZ when it came to sales and impact if you wanna take it there.

But since we're gonna keep it 98 and STRICTLY 98 like you said You're gonna dig yourself deeper in a hole and allow me to retort.

I already posted the album numbers of the 2 albums

Videos and songs that were on HEAVY rotation: Get at Me Dog, How its Goin Down, Ruff Ryders Anthem, Stop Being Greedy

TWO #1 albums in the same year with both album's eventually going plat

Murdered EVERY guest appearance and album feature he was on

Starred in a Box Office movie(Belly)

And when did the Ruff Ryders/Hard Knock tour start? 1999! Therefore by the status, DMX RAN 1998

JayZ's Hard Knock Life was a instant success but that STILL wasn't enough to overcome X's impact in 98 and it didn't really pick up steam until 1999

Try again

You're right. DMX just had that charismatic energy about him. Jigga was just mainstream with that hard knock sample. But Dmx defitnitley owned that time period. It was like 1a and 1b.

400 degreez came out in 98 also. CLASSIC

Yep, that was the album that really put Cash Money on the map. For the South it was "400 Degreez, The Last Don, Aquemini and Scarface My Homies and Goodie Mobb's Last Standing". I'm not going to lie, when I 1st hear "Ha" I though it was weak cause it wasn't lyrical. But it grew on me cause the beat sounded dope in the club. Also I never liked Jay's verse on the remix, he should of kept with the concept.

Its like you can do nothin but post stupidity... if DMX owned shyt it wouldnt be a "1a and 1b" you retards make no fukcin sense at all. you dumbass niccaz would say some shyt like "The Knicks ruled 98" then I'd be like "Well, the Bulls beat that ass and won the 'ship" your dumbass would respond "well I only saw Knicks jerseys around NY, no Bulls jerseys..."

its like bum ass niccaz like you are allergic to actual thought.

Reading is comprehension my friend because if you wanna base shyt off 98 and 1998 ALONE(In your words) It still shows that DMX ran it. Volume 2 didn't even outsell Flesh of My Flesh IN 1998 and The Tour didn't kick off until 1999 so like I said. X had the bigger year so accept it little nikka and keep it moving.

50 Cent was on the Roc The Mic tour in 2003... I guess he was Jay's sidekick too. Jay must have been more popular than 50 Cent in 2003 because it was called Roc The Mic tour and not G-Unit The Mic tour.
