The World, but from BK
No doubt...but I always felt Capital Punishment was so slept on and was better than It's Dark...., I know its an un-popular opinion, but I was such a backpacker back then and I always though Pun's lyricism on that album was underrated at the time.

Yeah, X was a force, but to say Jay wasn't shyt during the same time is crazy. He sold more records (HKL went on to sell 5 Million), headlined the HKL tour, and still sold 3 Million the next year with Vol. 3 after his shyt got bootlegged a month in advance.

X's run was crazy too though. Add Ja Rule to the mix, and Def Jam was unstoppable then.

Nobody didn't say Jay wasn't shyt. I said he was emerging as a star during those years. Hard Knock Life Volume 2 certified him as a player in the game but X was still running it that year. 2 #1 billboard and PLAT selling albums along with Belly? X held that year locked. They were neck in neck in terms of popularity but to say that DMX was some sidekick nikka as if he was a hypeman to Jay is some silly shyt that nikka came up with and thats what I was refuting .

Number for Its Dark and Hell is hot:

It was certified 4x Platinum by RIAA on December 18, 2000.

Flesh of My Flesh went 3 times plat(Same year, Where Jay at?)

Number for And There Was X:

The album sold very well selling roughly 698,000 units in its first week and went on to be certified 5x Platinum making it DMX's best-selling album to date. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard chart, firmly ranking DMX within hip hop's only artist to have their first three albums enter the Billboard Top 200 Chart at the #1 spot.

Not to mention the headliner for the Ruff Ryders/Cash Money Tour throughout 2000.

DMX's impact was more felt than Jay's during that time. Learn and deal with it nikka

WHY WAS DMX A SIDE ACT IN JAY Z'S HARDKNOCK LIFE TOUR THEN FORCED TO SHARE A TOUR WITH RUFF RYDERS AND CASH MONEY?

Jigga sold 5 mill of Vol 2 then in 2000 went 3X Plat with Vol 3... and also had DMX as a sideshow in his Hard Knock Life Tour

Actually it took Flesh Of My Flesh 2 years to go 3x Plat, while HKL did that in under 2 months in 98.

And in the end, it went on to outsell IDAHIH

JAY-Z HARD KNOCK LIFE, VOLUME 2 September 29, 1998 May 15, 2000 ROC-A-FELLA RECORDS Standard 5.00x MULTI PLATINUM ALBUM

I'd say they were pretty much neck and neck popularity wise. If I had to say one was above the other, I'd go with Jay though, as back in that time, all I can remember is cats saying Jay was nicer on the mic.

That shyt is irrelevant because X was a headliner too. Many people going to that show at the time would tell you more about X tearing down the show and being bored with Jay because at the time his stage presence was terrible and boring which is why Dame had to act like a clown to keep people hype.

5 times plat off of who's impact though? DMX and the Ruff Ryders!. Jay incorporated the Ruff Ryders sound throughout that Hard Knock album because they were tearing up the streets because before then that nikka was putting out Sunshine and all of that bullshyt. Nobody wanted to hear that anymore.

The Streets is Watching Soundtrack helped him get some stripes back after the In My Lifetime jawn was looked upon as a disappointment but that was mainly through the hardcore East Coast heads.

Jay getting down with the Ruff Ryders is what helped him get that boost(DMX grabbed the South with Ruff Ryders Anthem). He jumped on Blackout, He featured X on Hard Knock, Featured the LOX on Reservoir Dogs along with letting Swizz produce a couple of tracks on Hard Knock and Volume 3. Lets not forget Jigga My nikka off the Ruff Ryders Compilation.

DMX's impact at the time was huge. I can't say that it was solely his year even on the Hip Hop tip because of Lauryn Hill and Jay Z. People can put Miseducation into whatever box suits them, but "Doo Wop" (which went straight to #1 ) and "Lost Ones" (the Hip Hop records) were everywhere. She's the only artist that I can think of to cover The Source, Rollingstone, and Time Magazine (they covered how Hip Hop had changed America) in a matter of months. Nobody in Hip Hop was more popular at the time. Add to the fact that her one album in '98 nearly outsold both DMX albums combined.

Jay Z and DMX were about neck and neck.

What were the singles on Vol 2? Shot videos for Hard Knock Life, Can I Get A, and nikka What nikka Who, and Money Cash Hoes rmx (without DMX)

I dont care who muthafukcaz said tore it down... Why wasnt it the DMX TOUR featuring Jigga? The ITS DARK AND HELL IS HOT TOUR? THE RUFF RYDERS AND ROC A FELLA TOUR?

Well, it took IDAHIH 2 years to go 4X plat... HKL took a little over a year... fukc outta here with your revisionist history. Never trust a EC niccaz opinion on music, niccaz literally have no clue.

And what was played more into 1999-2000? Party Up, Whats My Name, What these bytches Want .Party Up, along with Slippin. Party up got more play than any JayZ track in 1999-2000. Jay was getting play but DMX's shyt STAYED on rotation. Accept that fact nikka.

Coming from the same nikka that said fukking Lupe is better than Biggie. fukk outta my thread:pacspit:

Why are you talkin about 99-00 dikkhead? the title of this thread is clearly '98. In 98 DMX was a sideshow in Jay Z's tour. I listened to DMX heavy... until that 3rd album when I realized this nicca done released the same album three times. I see you fallin back though...

And Lupe shyts on that fat nicca... Lu was better than that nicca before he even released an album
