There was talk of Starfield and Gears coming to PlayStation so they had that emergency event and Spencer specifically said it's just these 4 games at the time. Why bother saying that at all when the games he denied back then are clearly coming to the platform? Why didn't he say back then anything goes and we're looking to put any game on any platform?

There has clearly been a shift in his way of speaking about all of this since back then.

I guess it's supposed to be some sort of flex that some Xbox games are doing well on PlayStation. It's not. It just shows that leadership was so incompetent they couldn't sell hardware based on games people are actually interested in playing. Nintendo games would likely chart top PlayStation as well but Nintendo doesn't have to do that because they can leverage their software into hardware interest.

At the time rumors were going wild.

Gamepass would be canceled
All xbox games were being announced for playstation
Microsoft was gonna stop making games for xbox.
Microsoft was gonna drop the xbox name
Etc.

The announcement was to quell most of that.

I don’t think we should as an industry ever rule out a game going to any other platform. We’re focused on these four games and learning from the experience.
But I don’t want to create a false expectation on those other platforms that this is somehow the first four to get over the dam and then the dam’s going to open and that everything else is coming, that’s not the plan today. I also don’t want to mislead customers on those other platforms. We’re launching these four games, and we’re excited about it. We’re excited about the announce and everything else, but we’ll see what happens for our business.
