I just fukking told you how being homeless as a fukking child is draining and tiring on many levels. She was not talking or making noise in courtroom being rude, she was tired and fell asleep. All the judge had to do was excuse her and let her leave the room. She is already traumatized by her situation and then to have a piece of shyt assuming she has a bed or stable home is fukked up.

She was not on some "Scared Straight" program or some bad kid, she is just trying to make it and to do that to her in front of the other kids as well is horrifying.

And I just told you, it's her responsibility to seek assistance when she needs it.

Her behavior of just ignoring him and going back to sleep, and or mouthing off to him is not resolving her situation and is unacceptable.

That doesn't work anywhere in society. Whether child or adult, good circumstances or bad.

Closed mouths don't get fed.

Dog. Do you have kids?

Kids cannot go on field trips and just leave and go about by themselves.

That doesn't even need to be explained. Especially in 2024.

And she is a child. Her responsibility is school. That is her occupation. I don't know of her particular city but truancy is a crime in a lot of states.

She can't go to school and sleep. It's not acceptable in class when and where she is supposed to be learning. And field trips aren't free days. They are educational trips. Shes supposed to be learning. Why does she get to sleep when everyone else has to learn? Or can everyone just say fukk it and go to sleep?

Like I said the cuffs was too far. He could've left that part out and still engaged the rest of the class in the judicial system. Which one way or another a lot of them are going to get real familiar with if they don't have their own personal experiences already.

Did you even read the article? This has nothing to do with school...It's fukking august. This was a field trip put on by a non profit in the city. She didn't mouth off. She even apologized to the judge for repeatedly falling asleep. So that "School is her occupation" nonsense, is just that... Nonsense. You're applying parameters to the scenario that aren't even relevant. Actually...Your complete lack of empathy in this situation is astounding.

That's not how school trips work. She can't just leave by herself. There's not a staff member for every student on the trip so if they all just decide to leave or all want to do there own thing they just go free for all.

The cuffs was too far. But they went to the courthouse and not the cookie factory.

Being homeless and or sleepy is not an excuse to fall asleep in school, at school, or during school related events.

I swear to God, let there be a viral class video of a black boy sleeping in class while the teacher is teaching math or reading and the super c00ns and bucks will be screaming "lock up his damn mama!" "This is why we are at the bottom" "he won't graduate anyway" "he should be arrested!"

If she's homeless then she should be talking to her teachers and asking for help. And if her teachers can't or aren't helping her...you know who she should talk to who is also a state mandatory reporter and would take action to get her some help? A fukking judge!

Is she just gonna sleep through the whole quarter? Semester? The whole year until shyt starts going her way? And her teachers and the other students should just, what..ignore her cause times are tough?

Her situation is fukked up, but her attitude and her behavior is unacceptable. Being sleepy is a natural human condition. Happens to everyone. Just saying fukk it and sleeping is unacceptable. I'm an adult. I can't just go to sleep at work. I can't be sitting in the DMV waiting and say ":manny: fukk it. And im an adult. shyt I can't go to court and go to sleep. So who the fukk is she?

The cuffs was too. I'll never agree with that. But what he did wasn't bullying at all. He gave them all a taste of what court is like. And the likelihood that most of them will end up in court one day is strong. Some as victims, some as suspects, some as lawyers, some as bailiffs, jurors, sternographers, security. And guess what, they won't be able to just sleep then either and the consequences of doing so will be real, whether they get fined, go to jail, lose their job, etc.
You sound like a piece of shyt. Sleeping is not something most kids can control if they aren't getting proper rest. I don't know anyone who'd be calling for a parent to get arrested or saying a kid won't be shyt because they were sleeping in class.

An adult wouldn't be cuffed and jailed for falling asleep in court, unless they were on trial or part of the jury. They'd be asked to leave the courtroom.

I don't know why yall are acting like a kid falling asleep is some sign of negative behavior and disrespect. Sleeping is something the body does naturally when you're tired, especially kids.

The judge literally asked her peers if she should go to jail, so you could argue that it was a form of bullying.

I don’t know why some of y’all are defending this judge. He himself has said this wasn’t about her falling asleep but his perceived disrespect from her body language. So all that bullshyt @Wildin is spewing is it pretty much irrelevant to the situation because the judge even admits that actual lawyers fall asleep in court and it’s not that big of a deal. Let’s just be honest he saw a black child sleeping in his court and perceived it as disrespect then decided she was probably a problem child without knowing her circumstances.

I didn't read the story. I watched the video.

Now that I have clarification, what changes?

Shes still 16.

She still a part of a trip which is going to have some sort of supervision or chaperone.

Its possible she went on the trip on her own free will, meaning the group has no responsibility or accountability for her, therefore she can leave or walk off whenever she wants, which begs the question, if that's the case, why didn't she just leave?

Being noncompliant and uncooperative as the video describes still isn't in her favor or makes her right. If that's what really happened.

If she nodded off and he said "hey, wake up!" And she happened to nod off again then that nikka went on 10....yeah that's fukked up, especially putting her in cuffs.

shyt, that's happened to me a few times as a youth and an adult and I apologized and did what I had to do to make sure it didn't happen again.

People make mistakes, people have unfortunate circumstances. The only thing we can control is our actions, reactions and behaviors.

If that dude turned up to 10 and wouldn't back down because she nodded off twice and didn't talk back and only apologized then fukk him, suffocate him with his own robe.

Contempt of court, disorderly conduct. If the judge tells you to wake up, or be quiet and you don't do it...consequences.

Breh stop it. Donald Trump was legit falling asleep in court while on trial and not a single time was he held in contempt or disorderly conduct for doing it. Why are you dying on this hill. You didn’t read the article and didn’t read the judge’s statement. She wasn’t being uncooperative or loud. She literally just fell asleep, which as the judge himself has said wasn’t a big deal. This wasn’t about a teaching moment this was about ego and pride.
