Nobody would be charged for either of these for falling asleep in the gallery breh. They'd be asked to leave.
This judge literally admitted that people fall asleep all the time and it's not an issue, he had a problem with her body language, whatever that means.
I thought my school was bad taking us to Walmart on field trips.

I'm empathetic of her situation. I want her to have a comfortable place to sleep every night so she isn't tired and can do what's she's got to do regardless. I also stand on my words that if she needs assistance, she needs to seek assistance. Yeah, the judge may be a dikkhead (I think he's an a$$hole for the cuffs, he should know better being black but he could have a white wife) but that doesn't give her or anyone carte blanche to do what they want in any given situation. So all this "just let her sleep
" shyt is for the birds.

She wasn't on trial. She was just observing. Her being awake or not has no effect on the proceedings, I would understand if she was a defendant.

The gallery is where members of the public or family sit. If someone in the gallery fell asleep, they'd simply be asked to leave. shyt happens all the time, and nobody ever gets arrested for it.

Instead of thowing hands with kids over cell phones, just kick them out of class
Instead of threatening jail time for kids falling asleep, just have them removed from the courtroom. problem solved.

That's not how school trips work. She can't just leave by herself. There's not a staff member for every student on the trip so if they all just decide to leave or all want to do there own thing they just go free for all.

Being homeless and or sleepy is not an excuse to fall asleep in school, at school, or during school related events.

If she's homeless then she should be talking to her teachers and asking for help. And if her teachers can't or aren't helping her...you know who she should talk to who is also a state mandatory reporter and would take action to get her some help? A fukking judge!
Is she just gonna sleep through the whole quarter? Semester? The whole year until shyt starts going her way? And her teachers and the other students should just, what..ignore her cause times are tough?
Her situation is fukked up, but her attitude and her behavior is unacceptable. Being sleepy is a natural human condition. Happens to everyone. Just saying fukk it and sleeping is unacceptable. I'm an adult. I can't just go to sleep at work. I can't be sitting in the DMV waiting and say "fukk it. And im an adult. shyt I can't go to court and go to sleep. So who the fukk is she?
The cuffs was too. I'll never agree with that. But what he did wasn't bullying at all. He gave them all a taste of what court is like. And the likelihood that most of them will end up in court one day is strong. Some as victims, some as suspects, some as lawyers, some as bailiffs, jurors, sternographers, security. And guess what, they won't be able to just sleep then either and the consequences of doing so will be real, whether they get fined, go to jail, lose their job, etc.
Breh.....this caught my eye because this can't be a hill to die on. Imagine a poor child not being able to have a piece of mind, a comfort of a bed, and on constant watch because of the dangers of being homeless? Sleeping in a car, you don't get the proper circulation and comfort as a bed. A bench in the cold Detroit weather at night would be grueling for a teen.
Hell, my own son couldn't sleep in the homeless shelter due to the fact that the bunk bed was made of rubber, the constant noises, paranoia, and set scheduling along with random people getting housed in the most random of nights.
Imagine the eyes baggy and hallucinations ole girl having in that courtroom. The comfort of a chair is the closest thing to a bed. So she dozes off for a few minutes and next thing you know this fukking bald-headed miserable power trip ass basically proving his failed worth by making the poor girl a example. And even if this is a lesson, he could have gone about it a better way.

That's not right at all, and I really hope you go back on what you post and realize that being homeless is a big damn deal for a teenager trying to just live in this broken country.

This a field trip breh, these are observers, not participants. That man whole focus should have been on the case at hand.......if any of those defense lawyers have any kind of skill, I'm calling for review of any case I lost in his court due to lack of confidence that he was actually passing attention to the proceedings........he wanna play let's play.........
If you are just in court watching a case and aren't involved as a juror or defendant, you can probably sleep as long as it doesn't bother someone or disrupt the proceedings. At the same time, the judge has the right to remove anyone. I can't see a judge putting a random person in cuffs for sleeping. Which is why I don't like the guy. At the same time I'm not inclined to think he would have provided in legitimate legal punishment such as detention or a fine nor would he have had any ground to do so.
I've already talked about my job. I see it literally everyday. In fact Tuesday morning I got a call at 4am. I've been doing emergency placement of a 12 year old and 10 year old black kid. They ran away from home at like 1am.
What im willing to divulge is they ran away, were banging on someone's door at 1am. The people thought their house was being broken into and told the police they looked like 2 young black teenagers.
Fortunately, it wasn't the case at all. They ran away from home. And now they are staying with me in temporary custody. Even I have to stay in a house 30 minutes from my own house. Until they either find another associate or maybe get sent back home, but for now they can't go home, and they're likely 99% going to foster care. And there first days of school was yesterday. I had to take them. I had to pick them up.
I have all the empathy in the world. It's literally what I do.
