It's well documented the racism, misogyny and homophobia in Silicon Valley :mjpls:

Again, let me repeat myself, I didn't say Silicon Valley wasn't racist, what I said is that there are no black people in Silicon Valley to be racist against

If more black people started facing the racism in Silicon Valley that would be a step in the right direction because it would mean there are actually black people there, right now there are no black people relatively speaking

Secondly, I have no idea what homophobia or misogyny have to do with this conversation, please stop with the liberalism, it's an intellectual and economic dead end, let's focus on black people, let's focus on things that we can do by ourselves to put us in a dominant position in these areas and fields, not on some liberal crusade, a la Jesse Jackson

Maybe the lack of Black people and the racism are correlated :ohhh:

Why not build a Black Silicon Valley in DC or Atl... tons of Black IT professionals in those cities to create startups that could enrich our community

And spare me with the "you have to work for someone before you can create your own business"

Gates, Jobs, Wozniak, Allen, Page, Brin, Zuckerburg, Newmark, etc were all just creative nerds with an imagination that they could translate with their tech savvy

STEM majors have an expiration date and it's sooner than you think. They are good majors to pursue but they aren't a longterm situation, depending on your age.

Exactly, and besides, everyone can't pursue STEM degrees. It will saturate the market for one(already is actually) and 2nd, most people just don't like science degrees.

More graduates with STEM degrees is not gonna help the black community

I forgot.

A "black business" to you is a barber shop :pachaha: :beli:

Lil nikka I know you aint this slow......Why isn't a barber shop a black business. What, it aint impressive enough for white folks?

I know an old man that just closed up his shop at the age of 70, But he was a millionaire at 50. The oldest black barbers in the city are in prime real estate locations and they own the buildings with values of 600k and greater....

Got a partner that own a barber and beauty shop...Matter of fact, I got 3 partners that own beauty shops...All are worth 7 figures.....I guess you rather go punch that clock and beg white folks for a day off the plantation as opposed to being the master of your own

The lack of black people has to do with black people having an anti academic culture which in turn causes there to be very few blacks with STEM majors at places like Stanford, uc Berkeley and even San Jose state

The people that are in silicon Valkey are for the most part products of "Tiger Moms", so if we want more black people we need to learn from tiger mom or find some way to create competitive black students

There is nothing stopping dc, Atlanta, or Detroit from being a black Silicon Valley, except for black people

The first step in creating a black Silicon Valley is for us to understand what Silicon Valley is and why it's important, SV is important because of the hardware and software R&D (research and development) that goes on there, it's important to understand what R&D so as to avoid the conflation of IT with R&D, which I think you and others are doing, for the most part IT refers to upkeep of computers and networks, (now technically IT includes programming but in actual usage programmers are not IT guys) and in certain parts there's are a lot of black IT people, but IT people cannot do R&D, I'm not knocking it in anyway cuz there is a lot of money in IT, but IT is not what Silicon Valley is known for, SV is important for R&D not IT

And secondly to create a black Silicon Valleys there would have to be a cultural shift in the black community, we need to stop following the liberal notion that there has to be a shift by white people, because that liberal ideology is premised on white supremacy and puts black people's future in white peoples hands and you end up in the intellectual dead end that Jesse Jackson is in

The people who created the foundation for what would become Silicon Valley had a cynical view of school. You do not need to be academic to be innovative, entrepreneurial and tech savvy.

The people that created the foundation for Silicon Valley are mostly phds, and the bulk of what makes up Silicon Valley are highly educated people and its all built around stanford, berkely and other schools in the area

you dont need academics to be innovative , entrepreneurial or tech savvy, but you need academics to gain the technical knowledge and resources and networks to create something like silicon valley

here is more info in silicon valley

Starts in the education level. Get kids into this stuff early and you'll see changes. Anyone who is familiar with suburban schools know they have a variety of programs for middle school and HS kids. Computer classes are very popular, and the goal is often to keep them interested even after they realize they'll need to take more math classes to really get into programming/computers/etc.

But inner city schools don't have those opportunities, and you see kids grow up with no shot at that shyt. So complaining about tech companies not hiring blacks and Hispanics seems counter intuitive. Increase the base of blacks and Hispanics who have certs or degrees, THEN the problem will fix itself. But to do that you need to address inner city schools. Not saying you gotta throw money at them either, but something needs to be done.

who told you this? i just posted a doc on silicon valley, where do you see anything about college dropouts and slackers founding silicon valley?

breh, stop it, you dont know what you are talking about, there are a lot of college dropouts and slackers in SV but they did not found it and they dont make up the bulk of the people that work there, and even most of the those college dropouts are highly educated and they dropped out of top schools

there is a software side of SV and in that side of things there is niche of creating apps that a lot of people are jumping on, but there is a whole nother side of hardware development where its :russ: to think you will get hired without a degree, dont confuse the hype of apps and facebook with the actual silicon valley
