Everything has likely already been said but I have two things to add:

1.) Kidd stole two All-NBA First Team selections from Kobe in 1999-00 and 2000-01.

2.) Kidd was one of those guys who did stuff "that didn't show up in the box score." Even when his numbers didn't look that good, his teams were better after he arrived. Nets went to the Finals after he got there and Phoenix got worse when he left; Mavs got over the hump during his second tenure; Carmelo's best season in NY was the year a decaying Kidd was on the roster and they missed the playoffs the next season when he retired.

Where are you going with this? I never made a Marbury comparison... you did.

The Nets picked up Marbury in the Strike-Shortened Season. That's also when all the shyt happened with Jayson Williams. The Marbury experiment didn't pan out for New Jersey... that is not Marbury's fault.

But yeah, Jason Kidd style of PG will always be superior to a Stephon Marbury style PG.

Just wanted to be clear that your Marbury’s style play hurt the nets comment made no sense

This is a sick ass thread

Who the hell overrates Jason Kidd :dead:

Coli about to shyt on Clyde Drexler next :dead:
Actually this would be a good betting pool to have, like there needs to be a pool on the coli about what retired player will be shytted on before the year is out

You're giving Kidd too much credit for that Knicks team. He was a complete non-factor in the second half of season. Knicks should have load managed him for the playoffs. They brought back most of the squad back in the following year but that season was derailed mostly because of bad coaching, injuries and regression.

I get what you're saying but they never made the playoffs again with Melo.

He was a great player with flaws. Flawed like every player. Outside of the top 5 pg's in nba history because of his poor shooting and scoring ability, what also lead him to helm a lot of mediocre offenses.

But great team defender, much better man defender against bigger 2's and 3's(quicker pg's could do a lot of damage to him). Could have a bit of success against some 4's because of his hands and IQ. And of course, he also lead a lot of top defenses over his career.

Great rebounder, passer and fast break player. Gave all out effort and made little plays on the court to help his teams win, similar to a Jimmy Butler. Had some tremendous success with the Nets in the weak East, but an East that has been weak for a long time. But..from 96 to 2006 as the man, every team he played with made the playoffs.

Sounds like a Hall of Famer and a player worthy of praise. But sports discourse is one where we can't possibly speak about an athlete we dislike without completely shytting on them or downplaying the great things they have done.

He used to dominate games without scoring a bunch of points. Ya'll nikkas didn't really watch those Nets games like I did.

So much domination that we still haven't gotten a single mention of a Jason Kidd All Time playoff run and we got posters resorting to hypotheticals by putting him on the Spurs to win a chip in his prime. Yea, ok.

How old was Kidd the year the Mavs won the ring?

If I recall, he was the assigned defender in spot moments against 3/5 of that year's All NBA Team in that playoff run. Kobe,KD, and LBJ.
He held his own against 3 of the greatest offensive players of all time, at that age
