You haven’t explained how they stop prime Kobe because Kidd is there or how he elevates their half court playoff offense when he was notoriously trash there
Who can "stop" prime kobe though? You're being misleading on purpose. In 2008 Brice Bowen would have been the primary defender on kobe anyway so what does that matter?

The Spurs in that series flat out choked. They choked multiple 15+ pt leads that series and was flat out robbed at the end of game 4. They could have easuily been up 3-1 going into game 5 where they choked another double digit lead

Game 1 Spurs blew a 20 point lead with 17 minutes left in the game

Game 4 they got robbed at the end

Game 5 they were up 15+ and choked

If instead of playing a washed finley, ime and vaughn a combined 40 minutes a night, if 25-30 went to Jason, that series would have been a different outcome.

They lost because they couldn’t stop Kobe and their offense was terrible. There is zero evidence that Kidd is gonna remedy both those problems. What in Kidd’s skill set makes you think he’s stopping these chokes? What about his postseason career makes you think he’s changing anything. It’s not like he has some killerhalf court offensive game to stop the bleeding

I also like how you conceding that kidd’s defense(his main calling card) wouldn’t matter :dead:

I wouldn’t pick Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan to win 4 straight chips but Jason Kidd and Tim Duncan apparently would :dead:
Anyone saying the Spurs would have won four or five straight NBA titles is not worth having a conversation with. No rational thought present.

Their offense was "terrible" because their bench was ass. The starters had big leads that the bench blew every time. Lets say for sake of argument kidd was coming off the bench, their offense wouldnt have been half as bad and they would be able to sustain leads

They lost to the lakers on a miracle shot in 04 and lost to dallas because of a stupid manu foul in 06. The idea that its impossible for that not happen is laughable

There’s nothing about kids offensive game that makes me think he’s capable of those sustaining leads and his defense ain’t stopping the guy who was engineering the comebacks

Their half court offense was terrible because they were playing through Duncan who was older. The Spurs never had a great offense with prime Duncan but it was worse at that point. Kidd crowding things and bricking jumpers wasn’t gonna make things better.

Game 5 they were up 15+ and choked

Claiming a team "choked" because they traded runs in the 2nd quarter is a weird narrative. :comeon:

After a 13-13 tie, Spurs went on a 20-7 run in the first quarter to open a 13-point lead. In the 2nd quarter, the Lakers scored 9 straight to close it back to 6 with a minute still left in the first half. The rest of the game, no one led by more than 10. That's not "choking", that's just typical early-game runs.

Overall the Spurs did have worse 2nd halves than 1st halves, but that's because their core rotation included 37yo Bruce Bowen, 35yo Michael Finley, 36yo Brent Barry, 35yo Kurt Thomas, and Manu whose ankle was the size of a grapefruit at the time. They were just too old and hurt to last full games. Even if Manu had been healthy so he put up his normal averages and could have guarded Kobe more (so less need to play old-ass Bowen 35 minutes/game), they would have had a good chance to pull out the series.

Lets go back to this. Marbury and Kidd played under similar circumstances? Where?

Where are you going with this? I never made a Marbury comparison... you did.

The Nets picked up Marbury in the Strike-Shortened Season. That's also when all the shyt happened with Jayson Williams. The Marbury experiment didn't pan out for New Jersey... that is not Marbury's fault.

But yeah, Jason Kidd style of PG will always be superior to a Stephon Marbury style PG.
