shyt was almost classic

too many radio songs. I like them all but it just messed the pace of the album
4.5 mics

Yeah

I often wonder if “In My Lifetime Remix” would’ve fit perfectly on there if it would’ve been recorded at that time

Another thing I wish is “Lucky Me” had a better beat. They best always fell short to me

he did but RTD > every Jay album
I don't know about that. RTD is a great album, but way more FF material than RD. RTD was dope when it dropped and we all listened to it, but Puff pulled some bullshyt to get about a million more sales on the album. When the 'one more chance" song dropped around Spring of 95, a lot of people went out and bought Ready to Die thinking the "one more chance' on the album was the video/radio version. Realizing it wasn't, they had to buy maxi single anyway. That's why you saw an increase in sales for the album months after it dropped. The Sporty Thieves did something similar, but in favor of the fans. Those that didn't buy their Street Cinema album when it dropped, they added "no pigeons" on it in a repress while putting out a single as well after they released it.

The songs later added to RTD years later in represses such as "i shot ya" and "one more chance remix" obviously weren't on the original album in 1994

Even back then, Big was never considered the goat. I think because he died, people simply gave him the mantle and have been overrating him ever since. He routinely used prewritten songs in his freestyles. He was a dope writer, but he wasn't a better writer than Nas. He got washed in his beef against 2Pac, and had he not got killed, Life After Death wasn't fukking with Makiaveli. Rap was just a hustle to Big. He said it himself. He was basically setting up himself to leave Bad Boy, start his own label and have his own artists. He probably would've put out one more album and that's it. Because of his accident, he wasn't going to be doing shows like talking about.
Goat didn’t even exist. Mainstream rap was young asf.

Krs one, BDK n rakim was the God MCs back then.

You wyling

I do wanna take this opportunity to mention

I been going back and listening to random songs off Vol. 1 the last few days

@FreshAIG @RennisDeynolds @Knicksman20 @Cladyclad @Cloud McFly

What’s y’all take on this album now?

Only song that is truly trash and has always been trash on the album is “I Know What Girls Like”
The album was dope. The only problem is the singles Jay chose were ass. He was trying to cash in on the Puffy phase of 80s samples. "Wishing on a star" was the only good single released, but by then it was too late. The hot joints he put out as videos on the Streets is Watching VHS. To this day I will never understand why he didnt release "imaginary player" as a video when it's easily one of the best songs on the album.

Yeah The Bad Boy influence was strong with the Sunshine single even down to how Jay and Dame were posing in the video

BIG's best songs are better than Jay's best for me.

I think all Jada was saying is that Jay has had a long successful career. BIG had a successful but short career. If BIG had lived a lot of things could be different in Hip Hop.
Big was on his way out. He was tired of hip hop and had no heart for it anymore. I have 2 of his last interviews for Rap Pages and the Source magazine before he was killed and he was talking like a man that wanted out of the rap game and to focus on other things. He stated why he did a 2 album release for LAD. He was trying to fulfill his obligations to Bad Boy quicker and get the hell on. A lot of guys want to be in this hip hop shyt until they get signed and realize it's not as glamorous as they saw on tv. You have the press to deal with such as interviews in mags, radio, tv... Signing appearances, recording songs that your label agrees to take and then you must do songs you don't want to do for the label. The touring and living out of a suitcase for months and months. After the shows just wanting to get rest and every fan wanting to talk to you. And also, not getting paid on time by the label and not being paid enough.

Y’all gotta let the past go man. Its ok to say you prefer one over the other but there’s no two album run that’s going to top hov’s discog and truth be told LAD isn’t the certified classic y’all think it is whole lot of filler on that. If he were still alive and had more music you would have a better case
