shyt was almost classic

too many radio songs. I like them all but it just messed the pace of the album
4.5 mics

I gave it a 4 but like you said, I liked the radio joints, even I know what girls like honestly. But it did seem like it threw off the tone of the album.

He’s lived longer enough, but Big set the precedent. He’s still what opened the door for Jay, that’s why he brings him up in his lyrics so much.
idk if he opened the door for Jay but I can say they influenced each other. Hell listen to Ready to Die Biggie. Then listen to Life After Death Biggie which came out after Reasonable Doubt. Biggie started rhyming about things Jay was rapping about. Big went from rapping like a corner boy to wanting to be a boss. Not to mention changing the way he record his music because of Jay Z.

Jay is the GOAT behind Nas to me simply Jay cause of the 30 year rap sheet but also I feel like Jay just never made anything close to RTD or LAD.

Yes Reasonable doubt and blueprint are certified classics but they don’t come close to Bigs two albums.

As flawed as life after to death is that album has the highest highs and most perfect rap songs of all time on it.

Man this shyt right here man. Jay hasn’t topped this yet. Not only is it lyrical but this shyt is just hard as fukk man

You brought up “talent”
You brought up Allen Iverson & T Mac

That alone paints BIG like Big L or someone that either didn’t reach the precipice of his craft or fell short. That wasn’t him

The body of work stuff is a disingenuous argument for me so I won’t even bother

That’s awfully convenient when you dont have an argument :ehh:

I mention talent bc that HAS to be your argument since——as great as LAD and Read to Die are——it is not possible, in no way shape or form, to carry him 10, 20, 30 years later as better than Jay OR Nas when they’ve dropped countless songs, albums, etc since (I love to add Nas bc now the nggas that simply hate jay can’t say shyt).

If 2 albums is enough you’re telling me all of Blueprint didnt matter. You’re telling me One Mic or Ether or Takeover or ‘Dance’ didn’t matter. Bc you already cast your ballot forever and stopped counting after the last song on Life after Death.

That…doesnt make sense. And I think you know that

Biggie was rapping aspirational on Ready to Die. Wanting to be more than what he was

Scarface, King of New York. I want to be that…

Juicy self explanatory

Dude was robbing pregnant women

there was nothing boss like or mafioso (that media term never made sense to me) about Ready to Die

There were some moments but not as much as Life After Death. He was rich by then so the content changed up a bit.

Yeah but you don’t have to rap about what a another dude is wearing or drinking

people don’t like giving Jay credit but Life After Death would sound a whole lot different if Biggie never heard Reasonable Doubt
