If you feel like Jay passed BIG then totally up to you…It’s not unreasonable to say…

But please don’t try to sell me on this body of work shyt when Jay, just like any other artist, has put out a mix of great, good, so so & bad shyt

BIG already had two classics to his name…I’m pretty sure he could’ve managed to put out some ok & bad albums while riding waves for the next two decades :mjlol:

BIG's best songs are better than Jay's best for me.

I think all Jada was saying is that Jay has had a long successful career. BIG had a successful but short career. If BIG had lived a lot of things could be different in Hip Hop.

I do wanna take this opportunity to mention

I been going back and listening to random songs off Vol. 1 the last few days

@FreshAIG @RennisDeynolds @Knicksman20 @Cladyclad @Cloud McFly

What’s y’all take on this album now?

Only song that is truly trash and has always been trash on the album is “I Know What Girls Like”

I don’t know that this means bro

But for ME, Jay’s bars had more depth while they were alive. And that gap only widen as jay grew. Big didn’t get a chance to live long enough to make a You Must Love Me, daddy where you been, Soon you’ll understand, song cry, momma loves me, etc. He may have 1 or 2, but he didnt have the opportunity to grow on you and make those a staple. Jay did. And those types of songs separate jay from big

RIP Clark Kent he said it best. ‘Big you say your rhymes better than anyone else I’ve heard. Jay has the best rhymes of anyone I’ve ever heard’. :mjcry:Makes perfect sense

Basically. The thing that Big had over Jay which got him the attention was his voice and delivery...something that Jay has had time to work on and compensate for.

Big is an ATG, RTD is the first album I paid actual money for on my own rather than stealing taps and cds so it's no knock or bias. This notion that Jay was "lil homie" or Bleek to Big is wild revisionist.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Lyrically idk, we never got to see big full gas.

If big lived long enough to make conscious music the results are pretty much endless

Even back then, Big was never considered the goat. I think because he died, people simply gave him the mantle and have been overrating him ever since. He routinely used prewritten songs in his freestyles. He was a dope writer, but he wasn't a better writer than Nas. He got washed in his beef against 2Pac, and had he not got killed, Life After Death wasn't fukking with Makiaveli. Rap was just a hustle to Big. He said it himself. He was basically setting up himself to leave Bad Boy, start his own label and have his own artists. He probably would've put out one more album and that's it. Because of his accident, he wasn't going to be doing shows like talking about.

Ready to Die & Life After Death were albums nikkax bought & played in real time. That’s in the books. nikkax love BIG not for what he could’ve been…nikkax loved him for the amount he accomplished in such a short amount of time.

Super Simple

‘Did people love Big’ is not the argument . We’re debating who’s the better rapper/artist. And that’s such a rich complex conversation, with ELITE competition, that there’s no WAY you can reduce it to ‘welp, 2 albums were done here’.

Ie I’ve been going back and forth with jay and Nas and they’re each 10+ albums in. It takes a body of work to make that declaration. So yea as good as those 2 albums are, it’s not possible, no WAY, that simply having 2 albums is enough to ward off multiple albums, growth, stories, depth, etc. Not fukking possible

And something people never mention bc they hate jay: Everything I just typed I can apply the same exact logic to why Nas > Big too :gucci:

Put this another way. Michael Jordan retires after 2 rings. The 3peat doesn’t happen. The second 3peat doesn’t happen. 72 wins doesn’t happen. Flu game doesn’t happen. The first GW over Russell doesn’t happen. The shot doesn’t happen.

Meanwhile, Lebron has the same career he has now

Is Mike still the goat?

"The GOAT" wasn't a thing back then fam.

I mean yes rappers were vying for rap supremacy, KNOY and all that jazz but the way we talk about that conversation has so many more years of weight behind it than it would have back then. It was too young and moving way too fast to be talking about ALL TIME anything just yet. You went off of who was dominant right then and Big definetly had his moment with light.

You brought up “talent”
You brought up Allen Iverson & T Mac

That alone paints BIG like Big L or someone that either didn’t reach the precipice of his craft or fell short. That wasn’t him

The body of work stuff is a disingenuous argument for me so I won’t even bother
