The most respectable thing about Cole is the fact that he's not selling swag, controversy, beef, "shock posting", twitter lameness, an image of cars, bad bytches and a flashy lifestyle, a gangster image or anything like it. Thats why I think the label was shocked that he moved mad units, cause he's the only rappers besides the obvious exceptions Eminem and Lupe to do that in the past years.

He's one of the few artist that actually went gold. How is he a dissapointment? Because he isn't on everybodys track on some Busta Rhymes shyt?

that whole borin thing is just bein thrown out now for fun wit these nikkaz. i dont think these nikkaz believe it. shyt was just somethin to say when Cole had a lot of stans and now that he dont nikkaz just keepin it goin. it's hilarious when these nikkaz call him borin then go and listen to other borin ass nikkaz like Spitta, Krit, TDE, Stalley and such. and i like those nikkaz except Krit, but lets be honest them nikkaz is borin.

he only had 3 jawns which can seem like he was tryin to get a hit. Cole World, Nice Watch & Work Out. he was actually tryin to sell some records so why not try and get a hit.

as for Cole bein a dissapointment. idk how the fukk you came to that conclusion. its like nikkaz were expectin him to be Hova Da Gawd status of his first cd cause he aint a dissapointment at all. maybe Cole World is a dissapointment if you were expectin Warm Up Cole. Warm Up wouldnt have sold like Cole World if we bein honest. if Warm Up was his debut he'd flop to bolivia and this thread would make sense. but if he would've flopped mssg board nikkaz would still like him. so idk.

I found his album underwhelming tbh, but at this stage i'm just happy that a non retarded rapper is getting some success.

"No criminal record but I'm makin' criminal records
Isn't it ironic? Isn't it iconic?
Jacket so expensive you wouldn't even try on it
But it fit me perfect, I purchase it if I want it
The city on my shoulder, so no girl, you can't cry on it
When you make a list of the greatest aye, am I on it?
Maybe not yet but bytch I got the clock set
It goes tick-tock, game on lock
Son gon' shine but the reign won't stop, oh no!"

I'm a big J. Cole fan, but I didn't love the album. Probably around a 7/10 for me. I almost feel like he was trying to hard to appeal to too many masses, mainstream rap, his fanbase, women. I don't know if all the rumors about Jay-Z not wanting to put it out without some sort of hit single are true, but it almost sounded like the album was forced. I also feel like he dumbs himself down with all the curse words.

Hopefully working with Kendrick will help him see how to go back to just spitting and being a rapper.

Probably the worst description of "The Sideline Story" I've ever read.
There are probably at most two tracks that don't fit what I'd expect from a Cole record other than that the whole album is straight J. Cole, it's all the stuff he's touched on and spoken on before except they're album cuts.
That album was definitely for the fans, not the masses, that's more Big Seans lane.

I doubt the label was surprised,
doubt they would sign an artist they didn't think would sell.
Eminem is no exception by the way.
Maybe Lu, but even he has had controversy here and there.

I based that of J. Cole himself saying that.
I mean Eminem lately, but yeah if he came out with this type of music (recovery and relapse) and no controversy, beef, "shock posting" and everything else he probably wouldn't blow up the same way.

They signed J. Electronica, some dude named Hugo, some whiteboy gangster from London, they are managing hipster artists like santogold, lesbian djs and other people.
Jays plan for Roc Nation was not to make it a popular music powerhouse, but a mix of different artists for different crowds. Operating in most aspects of music from J. Electronica to Samatha Ronson to Shakira to Meek Mill.

Sorry for maybe f*cking up the interface of this page but what is this?

These are the most memorable tracks from his last mixtape, not a single joint about girls.
Dudes raps about most topics concerning life from loans to school to relationships to small-town life to city life, dreams, aspirations, motivations, not having money, having money, social injustice and most shyt that concerns the average joe. I find it funny when cats say Cole doesn't rap about anything, when 99% of rappers talk about shyt the average joe never goes through. Cats are listening to 2 chains while saying that Cole has nothing to rap about :smh:

I thought the album was piff when it dropped but that only lasted for a couple weeks. I think he'll grow with his upcoming projects though. The standout joints from him album were dope

He'll probably be like Wale. The 2nd album is so important to his placing in the game. "Ambition" had me like :ohhh:
