Good consumer move and good business move can go hand in hand, son. you should know that.

Its a good consumer move not making your consumers go into pandemic infested world to see a movie they really want to see but refuse to go outside for all that. that's a good move regardless.

and yes I already spoke about the long-term effects, and how in the end we're going to pay more. stop cherrypicking posts just to look clever. They ain't saints but I know people legitimately shook to go to a theater and they have kids. this short term fix is a good look
I think it's a good consumer move, without being a move based on the well being of the consumer. I won't say it's unintentional. I'm sure the optics of how it would look to consumers was focus grouped ad nauseum. But the business is the point of this whole venture.

First of all, tell that to someone not living in your third world country. :russ:

And this is clearly not a short term plan so I could give a rat's ass that it gives consumers options in 2021. The real game being played here is clearly long term and like you even acknowledge yourself, the long term game is going to end up costing the consumer more. So look at the whole picture instead of being happy you can watch the new Matrix film on your couch.

This largely, but again, short term doesn't matter here. Long term is where the effects will hit consumers big time.

It always is. Which is what I said and have said repeatedly lol. Short term sure it looks great. Long term it’s an issue. For multiple reasons. Least of all being the consumer for real. Like I said a few posts above, there’s an entire industry of people who aren’t in front of the camera who will lose money if the shift continues in this direction. As will in front of the camera. Which puts the costs back on us.

I just told my boy we’re all smiles and shyt now but eventually we’re going to get fukked

I like it about time some innovation and risk took place, VOD was always the future

I don't think this is a move to do when you expect to make profits tho. Some of these movies probably will, but if WW is going to lose money, im pretty damn sure Dune will. Matrix probably will also. So it's one of those things where the consumers may rejoice but yeah, you're right. they'd have to raise prices to make it sustainable

I'm sure they've done the math tho.

You already have to split the money with theaters, so why not keep more of the bread to yourself.

you also forgetting they are an ISP and Cell Phone provider. Enticing people to switch over to those is also >>> for AT&T overall as well.

Theaters will be back, nothing can replicate that experience. It's just in this short term with covid, you gotta find a way to maximize revenue. AT&T has the infrastructure already in place to do so. That's why this makes sense.

Let's say they add 10 million subs at 15 dollars a piece, That's 150 mill a month extra. That 150 covers a big budget movie and that's not even including the revenue from those that are existing customers.

Nah not forgetting it. Just quoting the article. The studio says they’re going to lose money. And if Wonder Woman is losing money I can’t imagine the other two also very expensive movies are going to make money.

It’s not just money for the studio. They gotta recoup the costs around the board. Production, the marketing costs they already ate. Deals with sponsors and whoever is getting paid on the backend.

Studio exec talked to deadline and said Wonder Woman needs to make 40 percent more than tenet to turn a profit. And that’s just for that movie not an entire streaming service.

but losing money on WW through the movie theaters or recouping by placing on your streaming service where all of that money goes straight to you unlike the theater getting their cut is smart (esp for now with Covid).

they're not counting just on subs to HBOMax, I'm sure they will entice people to switch their isp/cell phone service as well. Get customers to use any AT&T service by using HBO Max as the carrot somehow someway.

Yeah of course but it’s only going on the service for a month. They’re not putting it on there forever.

If the studio is saying they’re losing money on the movie then they’re losing money lol. Idk what else to say homie. They said it not me :hubie:

get those subs for one month and that'll help them recoup and make a profit, esp if cats keep the service or switch/buy another AT&T product (which is the endgame).

They need to make about 600 million to be in the black. they don’t think they’re going to get that many subs this month to see it. shyt maybe they will but they don’t think so
