He's actually right. The reason Garvey was successful was because he actually got shyt done. He offered services to the people, not just a speech. He started business and put people to work. He started hospitals, lawyers offices, and had a political movement and influence and got shyt done.
The new black leaders offer nothing other than a nice speech and empty promises. If you give the people who are the most fukked up some tangibles, they'll ride with you. History has proven this.

He taught black folks to stop depending on whites and do for self (which allowed them to in turn start their businesses).
He started numerous businesses himself and employed hundreds of people in the community
Right before getting deported he was sending the best black engineers in America over to Liberia to settle it as the HQ of the new African government.
By then the FBI got him and deported him back to Jamaica.

I don't believe that to be true. We don't have direction and we're not organized, but we're definitely not a lost cause. If you look at what happened during Jena 6 black people organized and made sure them boys wasn't railroaded. The problem was we didn't take it further to ensure laws were changed to make sure things like wouldn't happen again.
The main problem is there's a lack of effective leadership. Those who claim to be in leadership positions (Tavis Smiley, Cornel West, Sharpton, Jackson, Obama) hasn't done anything for African people except make speeches. The last public figure that I know who was really getting ready to put in some work was Johnny Cochran. He was getting ready to bring a case before the UN (I think) with a specific number of how much reparations money black people were owed. Next thing you know, he's dead.

Bruh the UNIA had over 2 million members in over 40 countries at its height...back when there was only about 2 billion people in the whole world.
He practically pioneered black nationalism, preached cultural pride and being proud of oneself at a time when black people were viewed and treated as subhuman, and pushed for and actualized economic empowerment and private enterprise within the black diaspora.
They don't teach you about his full impact on black people in school because his impact was mostly on black people. Garvey's influence and impact on black people worldwide specifically > MLK and Malcolm X's.
How would he mobilize this.
