For us to progress as a people it means that within our communities and family structures certain things would have to stop and no one likes having their party crashed

I used to really be on the "let's build, let's fix the problem, we're the victims were being exploited" tip when I was in college, but I got out into the real world and saw a generation that was quite aware of the things going on and how it affected them. Many of us choose to be in darkness; it's quite American when you think about it and if anything a sign that we are integrating more than we think.

To solve the issues with the family structure what do we have to do? Less unprotected sex? maybe choose our mates more carefully? How many people truly want to do all that? We love thugs, we love hoodrats...we love going raw.

To solve the issues of crime in our community what do we have to do? Maybe remove the dope boys? Maybe stop striving to live beyond our means and build together? How many people truly want to do all that? School just isn't cool to many of these cats. We think pumping money into education is gonna solve it but we don't even want to learn using the tools we have now. How many don't even want to skate by in the travesty that is out public system today? All you really gotta do to get a diploma is show up. Folks don't even wanna do that.

Best you can do in 2013 is just have your personal life together and let other people see you be the alternative so they can make a decision without excuses. I'm off that save the world stuff though, seen too many of my own people just flat out say "no".

Could someone tell me what did Marcus Garvey/Malcolm X do or really accomplish?

for example: MLK helped get us civil rights (something concrete)

People like Garvey and Malcolm X helped black people organize and also raised the self esteem and gave them an identity during a time (especially in Garvey time) when black people around the world were regarded as sub human.

This pretty much sums it up right here...The immediate answers are always right in front of you, but 9 times out of 10, its not the answer you're looking for....

We as a community need an entire mental\cultural shift in order to advance as a whole and its simply not going to happen.....

Yea I understand that but at the same time ALL did not benefit from it or even have a lasting effect since so many lack awareness now. We still benefit from what MLK did today as well as back in that time. Im just trying to see if Im actually missing something or if that was all to Malcolm and Garvey

That sense of identity is important and influences alot of Black culture. And if you want to put MLK on a high pedestal just remember he was not the only one working on civil rights during that time and it took a bunch of white men in government to pass the civil rights act.

How do you know if people were more or less receptive today or back then? You think people weren't cross dressing at the turn of the century? If anything blacks were far less educated and would be less receptive to any message back then as opposed to the literate population we have now.

Current day America might allow Garvey to be successful.

Aint no way they was letting Garvey take away their cheap labor back then

But since we are no longer the "cheap labor," the powers that be may help facilitate that 8-10% drop in the population....

Peter we are still considered as cheap labor. The biggest process of them all is the Prison Industrial Complex which is related to the Drugs laws and the Alphabet boys who funnels the crap. The Prison Industrial Complex even relates to the political affairs of state representation and votes.

These redneck towns are able to list prisoners in these prisons as citizens of a town to receive more votes for you know all the B.S in the government.

It can be fix our people has zero confidence or respect for themselves and each other. I believe it starts from there and for one people may not agree with me but get rid of Islam and Christianity from our mindsets.

You know dam well blacks don't like working under blacks. Cmon bro.

If it's fair wages and benefits, then pretty much everyone would fukk w/ it, especially considering this economy and how blacks are treated in the job market.

Im making an assumption given how we have people like him around today who are unable to break through to the youth with knowledge. I mean you all hear knowledge daily and mock it like filth. Many of you revel in ignorance. Many of you come from stable well to do homes and you still feel the need to act like common trash to fit in and be accepted by your peers who are nothing like the people you're imitating Its so demonic friend :lupe:. All the tools are in front of us today, its just, no one cares. Thats why i feel the way i do friend.

:usure: that is a serious misreading of history. the civil rights act came after large scale movements and MLK was just one part of it

People did all the things you're mentioning in the early 20th century... they are still just assumptions. I don't think there has been a single group or time in history in which general knowledge hasn't been mocked, and the society hasn't reveled in some kind of ignorance. That's just how societies operate.

when blacks were thought as subhuman, garvey was smart as hell, doing speeches before 25k at madison square garden, starting political parties, starting his own shipping magnate that sadly didnt take off
