Mets will own the next generation of young players coming out of the Dominican Republic for sure now.

Damn shame but truth is these Yankees are not the same Yankees that most of us grew up with.

The 90s are ancient history and 2009 is a generation ago.
Lot of people aren’t grasping this or the severity of the damage Hal has allowed be done to this team. Hal passing on every big fish free agent besides Cole since 2010 while refusing to fire an incompetent GM who is thoroughly despised by 90% of the fanbase and many of their former greats has destroyed the brand/image of the franchise. An entire generation now knows them as a team content to settle on 2nd or even 3rd tier free agents as long as they stay above .500 for the year. They’re known for quotes such as “I don’t know why fans are upset in June”, “we don’t need Bryce Harper because we have 6 outfielders” “we like Gio but he’s no Josh Donaldson”, and “the process matters more than the results”. He’s lost an entire generation of fans with his conduct over the last 15 years because he fought harder for a lower luxury tax threshold and a hard salary cap in 2021 than he ever has to build a winner here.

I’m genuinely unsure there’s anything Hal could ever do to fix this mess. He’s solidified himself as the most hated owner in New York sports history besides maybe Woody Johnson. He’ll never be able to set foot in their building again without getting booed out of the place and being met with chants of sell the team. He’s created an atmosphere of frustration, resentment, and genuine hate of their own team by a large portion of the fanbase I’ve never seen in any other team besides the jets. I don’t see how the perception of this franchise ever recovers under his ownership. There’s no reason to ever trust him as an owner ever again.

I’m not even mad at not having Soto but I’m mad (and it’s been like this for awhile) the Yankees are no longer the Yankees.

Yankees should not be outbid for anyone period.

Also this is why I wanted to go all in last year and sign at least one of snell/yammamoto/montgomery.

I know none of them lit the world on fire although snell and Montgomery might have been terrible due to not having spring training. But I knew and the Yankees I believe knew it was 99% one and done with Soto.

So why wouldn’t you try everything you could to take home the World Series? They knew they can cost and sell tickets all season and that’s fine for them.

Now I have no faith that Cashman can use that mo yeah successfully else where I really don’t.

They haven’t been the Yankees since 7/13/2010 and that’s the problem. There’s no reason for us to tune in if you’re not gonna conduct yourself like the Yankees are supposed to. They had 1 year with Soto and the only other guys they brought in when they needed a first baseman, a third baseman, a left fielder, a centerfielder, huge questions at shortstop and catcher, and 2 more starters were Alex Verdugo who was the worst hitter in baseball the 2nd half of 2023 and Marcus stroman, who gave up 23 earned runs while pitching just 24 innings in the second half of 2023.

There was no reason to think to would’ve been one and done if they had a clue how to operate. The move to make is put a blank check in front of him last winter and tell him to fill out whatever number he wants on it. That or you go all in on everyone else and then put said blank check in front of him. Either way you have to pay whatever he demands after missing out on every other great player besides Cole for the past 8 years, most of whom they made no effort to even speak to in the first place and especially when he was the guy who they’d be building around for the future and failing to keep him would basically leave them where the lakers and Heat were after they lost their stars in 2013-14.

There’s absolutely no reason to trust cashman with any roster moves of any kind. This is a guy who couldn’t be trusted with the task of “pay Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Bryce Harper, Manny Machado, or Aaron Judge” when all of them publicly wanted to be here. Instead on a near annual basis he makes some move similarly destructive as the lakers trading for Russell Westbrook, all of which the team is still paying the price for 11, 6, and 3 years later respectively.

This shyt reminds me of when my Magic were making a push for Tim Duncan to pair up with Grant Hill, and the organization told Duncan that his wife wasn’t allowed to fly on the team plane with him.

:deadrose:
A failure the Magic are still paying for. No second star means Dwight panics over the summer of 2010 having never won anything and forces his way out of town, & the Magic have yet to recover from that trade. I think 1 playoff appearance since then.

Lets be honest here

If Judge isnt the choke artist that he js, this wouldnt matter anywhere near as much as it does right now.

Yup.

Judge showing up in big spots would’ve made up for iffy pitching because there was zero guarantee Stanton was going to be as productive as he was on October.

This team could’ve literally slugged their way to a title because it wasn’t like the Dodger pitching was immaculate. So I would’ve been fine with Soto walking if that meant a chip on his way out. But with 6-7 guys not coming back this is a chance to find some scrappy ass small ball guys who can get on base, keep Jasson up with the team and put some actual emphasis on the rotation/bullpen.

A lot of the replies in here :pachaha:

Nah breh.

We wanted him because he was already here but if they re—signed him and didn’t address any of the real issues, folks would’ve still felt some kind of way.

I like Soto as a good locker room guy and for his bat but will he magically improve defensively when the team isn’t up 7 runs in a tight ass game where the momentum can swing any direction?

It’s not gonna be fun watching Judge hit 45 homers and barely crack 90 RBI’s while taking 200 walks. He should’ve taken the money in San Francisco or San Diego in 2022. Now he’s gonna end up like Donnie. I really hope he asks for a trade before he ends up :flabbynsick:. Dude plays for the Yankees and he’s had 3 legit shots at a title in a 9 year career. This front office has failed their star in a way I haven’t seen since the cavaliers front office from 2003-10. I can’t imagine he isn’t disgusted with the ineptitude they’ve shown since he arrived. The one time in his 9 years here they finally go after a great player and get him, they manage to lose him after 1 year.

Let’s all take a moment and think about how Hal and Cashman have so thoroughly damaged the Yankee image and aura that Soto would leave a team with Judge protecting him in the lineup and playing in a stadium he’s a perfect fit for that he just went to the World Series with for a team that has a totally suspect pitching staff and a thoroughly unimpressive batting order with a park that’s not friendly to hitters at all and who has made the playoffs 4 times since WCW was bought by Vince McMahon even when both teams had similar deals on the table.

I also am gonna point out that Harper and Machado’s deals combined that they passed on were for less than what they were offering Soto and have gaping holes at left field, third base, and first base :snoop:

And he doesn’t even have a stadium to play in so that should be his real concern.

$500 says he won’t be in the league when whatever the A’s are building in Vegas finally opens.
I’d take that bet because odds are the A’s won’t ever get that ballpark built anyway :pachaha:
