I had a feeling Cohen was loading up on Soto even more so than he intended once he let Adames go and had him sign with San Francisco. Mets just threw out Alonso like day old trash, didn’t even make him feel good with a courtesy offer :dead: :pachaha:

Cohen is trying to be the new George but we know he’s not a baseball guy — and neither was George. At least George cared.

But a bag is a bag and these players know he’s foolish enough to keep spending

Honestly he isn't worth over 550. But market says otherwise. That's an insane contract. Before the year started no one thought he would come close to this amount of money.

I'm not even upset.
Facts.

That kind of contract is reserved for the best-of-the-best(Ohtani, Trout, Bonds, Griffey, and A-rod)

Love the guy, but he's not in that category

Soto took the bag bag. Can't be mad at him. To be honest, he really had no loyalty to us, other than that one season. It was a great season, but we'll move on.

Hopefully, Hal will now use that money to get us another high-quality starter, a bonafide closer, address the lack of contact hitters or high OBP hitters in the lineup (be it 2B or 3B, wherever Jazz isn't playing, plus a quality two way 1B). We have holes, but we can still contend.

Maybe, just maybe, they'll now give The Martian and Spencer Jones, legit shots at playing time, rather than bringing in veteran roster fillers with no upside nor future.

They passed on Turner, Correa, Castillo, Seager, Freeman, Olson, Snell, let Cano walk too. I’d love to know what they think will sell tickets going forward for an angry and fed up fanbase that’s tired of being lied to while watching an organization give a half ass effort every year and calling us spoiled when we call them out on it.

There’s no prestige left because Hal let his GM destroy it the same way reinsdorf let Krause destroy the bulls 25 years ago. That ballpark is gonna feel like a morgue this season and for the next decade to come if Hal doesn’t fire Cashman now. Your window is 100% slammed shut and the team is run by people who are impossible to root for. You have to do something drastic now before your team becomes white Sox levels of irrelevant.

Bozos better start with Bellinger, sign whoever the hot Japanese dude is right now, get a defected Cuban for cheap and stock up on pitching. Jasson better be in the lineup or cash him in for 7th-8th inning arm who is lights out.

I got love for Soto but he’s not like the guys you mentioned. But he’s a great fit with a great lineup, if your team isn’t built poorly.

Just realized. He's played what 7 seasons and never won a MVP? That's desperate-for-a-star money by Cohen. Soto won a WS title on Bryce Harper's team. He was young, so I get it.

But you might be onto to something, as he's never been the best player in either league, while maybe one of the top players.

Now that he's no longer a Yankee, can we now admit that he's a DH playing OF, not worth 15 years, and that he cost us game 1, and likely the series, because of his bad defense?
He’s worth what the market says he’s worth. The cold hard reality is that with him gone, we’re back to 2013-16 again or to make a basketball comparison the Magic after shaq left. 45-48 win ceiling and maybe a surprise run to the conference finals, but the team has no shot at a title and they have no means of building a legit contender before age catches up to the rest of the team. There’s no cavalry coming over the hill. This is a team with no first baseman, no third baseman, no left fielder, probably a bust at shortstop, a huge question at catcher, a rapidly aging and injury prone DH, and a massive question mark at centerfield while still having a $250+ million payroll and an owner who does nothing but cry poverty and push for a hard salary cap.

Short of trading for Brent Rooker, Vladimir Guerrero, and maybe seeing if the angels want to offload Mike Trout’s deal and hope he stays healthy, there’s no moves to make. If there’s no megastar to be had, then the only other play to make is blow it all up and this GM has show time and time again that he has had way too many chances to get another rebuild.

Judge has 2 MVP's yet nobody should ever trust him in a big spot again.

Agreed. Soto's money went up $250 mil just cuz in the postseason he was a lock. You never had to worry about Soto in a big spot. That's worth its weight in a gold especially for a team who ALWAYS fukks up in a big spot.

Without a doubt. A-Aron gotta earn that trust. He's a proven choker now. But remember A-Rod struggled in the postseason prior to the 2009 breakout. We can only hope Judge goes on one of those runs.....

Soto signed for 765/15 (51M a year), Yankees offered 760/16 (47.5M a year)
That year extra for lower money is a big difference in the long run. Damn near 20M difference in the first 5 years :manny:
Then looks like Soto can get a 4M pay bump after his 5th year

The mid 2000’s Yankees had Jeter, Damon, Bernie, Jorge, Giambi, Matsui, Cano, & Sheffield around Rodriguez. Who else in this lineup can you say scares anyone? Outside of Judge, Stanton, and Jazz, nobody else on the roster had even a .720 ops while Volpe and Cabrera had the best averages last year who are still on the team at .243 and .247 and wells is the only other guy to have an OBP of even .310 last year. How is judge gonna go on a 2009 A-Rod type playoff run when this offense won’t be good enough to even get close to October baseball?

fukking WS appearance was just one big ass monkey’s paw, all it did was raise Soto’s bank account :pachaha: :beli:
Now 2024 feels worse than 2023 for the same reason that the ravens 2023 afc title game appearance saved John Harbaugh’s job and doomed the next few years :snoop:
