Studying for my CISA as we speak. Eat brehs Eat :ohlawd:. These salaries are kinda of insane though but if you can master these skills you will get paid. I am now single and recovering from dental surgery so I am going to spend the next 4-5 months studying heavy. Hopefully I can level up to at least $140,000 when I am all set and done.

Honestly, its practice..eventually it just becomes second nature. After I got moved over team, I had to learn linux from complete scratch, I didn't know what I was doing but now, some of these commands are becoming second nature. Just keep a one note of linux commands or shyt look online lol.

Practice is the only way. Trying to automate tasks and put together shell scripts will facilitate that. When you hit that double grep into a triple sed followed by an awk :banderas:. I'm making some CLI tools right now. I'm about to look into a tutorial on setting up auto completion.

Thanks brehs. There's no way to really swerve this. The big bucks are in those command lines. I just need to keep practicing.

my motivation is waning. yes, i'm still studying, but i've been applying to positions and trying to connect with key players on linkedin as well. No call backs, all of them are leaving me on read. I've had my resume serviced several times, spent hundreds of dollars and nothing. Do my credentials really suck that I'm not getting even one response back? I've been on a career change journey for 3 years and I feel i'm going no where.

I’m trying. I sometimes get in this headspace, I guess it’s a mixture of impatience and minor let downs...I know this field is hard to crack, I guess it’s just building your mental fortitude to keep going.

Have you thought about talking to a career coach to see what are you doing so that they can guide you to a better path to your destination?

I'm working with one, and honestly I feel more robbed of my money than helped.
There isn't anyone in your family or immediate circle that works in IT already? Most people I know got their first start by someone hand delivering their resume to a hiring manager.

I would reach out to a recruiting firm over any kind of career coach. Because the recruiting firm only gets paid if they find you employment.

When I got my first break I had to relocate to a smaller city because of too much competition for jobs. Then once I got some experience I was able relocate back to a major market. You may have to deal with a longer commute in order to get noticed.

Networking goes a long way in this field for those without tons of experience. So make sure you're on a first name basis with a minimum of 5 or 6 people already working in the cybersecurity field. And I don't just mean interacting with them online.
