I got a question for you.

I was reading the Tood Lamme CCENT book and it's just really memorization so forth, then I got some David Bothal videos from a download site and I got lost real quick since he's using GNS3 and showing alot of actual routing and switching commands. I kinda fell back and got lost and overwhelmed so I grabbed my N+ book and moved for with that.

My question is when you got the CCNA did you self study or go to training for it? and do you advise training or self-study due to the actual commands and getting the right software?

If not do you think the N+ will open doors to a decent career? Or is it better to get the CCNA By any means possible? I was thinking the CCNA can go many places and is pretty well rounded, I couldn't probably do anything for Field to Support Work and so forth.

i can send you some PDFs dm your email.

CCNA is better than the Net+. What exactly were you having issues with the labs? I haven't used GNS3 in a while but I might be able to answer your questions.

It was probably David Bothal, I bought his Udemy course a while back... GNS3 the Layer 2 and Layer 3 routers and switches... I had a issue where I couldn't get the proper layer 2 switch in there.

Here's what I got.

Cisco CCNA / ICND1 (100-105) Complete Course: Sims and GNS3

Basically I got all the GNS3 images, I got the VM set up and all that but the layer 2 switch keeps on booting up without turning out, I did get a few routers working but a lot of the command David used wouldn't work on the simulation software.

I downloaded Free Packet Tracer so I'm gonna do that to get through the CCENT, for the CCNA I'll probably go back to GNS3.

So I should be good for now, and I'm not gonna do the N+ again and just stick to the CCENT.

I was looking for this

cisco iosvl2 15.2.4055

I couldn't get the proper image... but I don't need that for now.

EDIT

I figured it out, I got the switch set up...

If I were you, I wouldn't even bother with an Net+. I think it is complety worthless, if anything read the book and gain the knowledge but dont take the test. If you do a job search you'll see every engineer position is going to ask for a CCNA...Only desktop & support positions ask for N+. CCNA is going to teach you networking and youll learn cisco. Cisco still has a majority of network hardware market. shyt is a win win to me

When I got the CCNA I self studied. I read the official cisco book & the book with the lighthouse on it (cant remember the name). Then i'd watch videos on the subject to really drill it in. I actually used GNS3 as well. That really helped me a lot, I was able to configure shyt anytime I wanted with that.

You have to know your learning style because self studying isnt for everyone. It takes discipline that a lot of people just dont have. And networking is VERY dry so youll know if the shyt isnt for you if you cant make it through a chapter without falling asleep. I cant answer which is better for you, I only really know what worked for me.

Well I study a bit slowly but I'm getting through it at a snail pace. I'm watching David Bothal videos first, then doing a little hands on then following up with the book. I'm trying to get this by the end of the year so I working a bit faster and hopefully will get this all down.

I won't bother with the N+ but Verizon hires next enter level network technicians...

Network techs (Field Techs) usually require N+ while Network Engineers usually require CCNA. I'm not working right now so I'm going this 6 to 8 hours a day.
