network engineering

we dont have any data centers everything is in the cloud (besides our 2 physical sites) so its heavy AWS and IaC (infrastructure as code) work

That's what i want to get into!. I really want to be a Network Security Engineer working with AWS cloud and security. What certs do you have? any tips for someone going that route in today's market?

At this point I actually have no certs :mjlol: I got the CCNA & CCNP in routing & switching (ccnp in 2016) and I let that bytch expire this past August...It wasn't beneficial for me at this point to renew it since I was looking to do more cloud based networking. Early on this year I was actually studying for the CCIE but then by July I was like why bother with this? Where is this going to get me in todays world? Im not saying there isnt a need for CCIE's today but for ME personally it just didnt make sense. Now im going to get some AWS certs (specifically the solutions architect, networking and maybe security specialty certs). Next year I want to get the CISSP to round out the security side of things (networking & security goes hand in hand).

Now if I was starting out today and wanted to get into networking I feel a CCNA complimented with python knowledge (not an expert level), linux skills (again dont have to be an expert just know how to move around the CLI), cloud experience (go with AWS since this has the majority of the market at the moment) and some infra as code knowledge (ansible, terraform) will have you looking GOD level in an interview (assuming you truly know your shyt :shaq:)

What your going to find out is a lot of this shyt is starting to blend in and instead of having a purely cisco network engineer - they want hybrids. There's a lot of guys who are clueless on this stuff in the network world. If you take the time and hustle and quit bullshyting many doors can open up for brehs who wanna eat.

Now im no expert but I feel being more of a hybrid is the way to go. You got the right idea with going the network security route combined with AWS.

I'm trying to get the ccna by the end of the year. I got the S+ and some bjlkshyt soc job that was a waste of time so I'm basically entry level still but I'm hoping that ccna will at least keep the lights on while I grind for better. I'm hoping I can hustle so temp positions to get them lights paid after I get that ccna.

Does anyone in here work in incident response, digital forensics, MDR (FireEye, Crowdstrike, etc) or malware analyst?

What study guides are y’all using to get Cloud engineering Roles without prior experience? I’ve been in IT for almost a decade and just now getting a SysOps gig

Got my sec + as first cert should I continue with a+ And net +
All that vendor neutral stuff won't lead to many big money job offers. Most companies still hire based on experience you have with their vendors. The sooner you gain experience on a particular vendors technology the better. Especially if you can learn their latest and greatest release before everyone else.

And since their current employees often don't have time to stay up to date. So they put off doing upgrades until the current system reaches EOL.

I've gotten jobs just because I had experience on a particular vendors latest technology. But the current employees were still using a version several years old.

Companies are controlled by the tech vendors they use for the most part.

You got the idea down :salute: now its time to execute that shyt. Plan a strategy write some goals out and stick to it..then Read this post in a year and be like:ohhh:

I tried going that route but it's too much work for not much more money. Most companies could care less about analyzing malware on their Network.

But if you want to learn just follow the guys below.

Lenny Zeltser or Colin Hardy
