DOWNERS GROVE, Ill., Dec. 20, 2017/PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- CompTIA, the leading provider of vendor-neutral skills certifications for information technology (IT) professionals around the world, today launched a major expansion of its credentialing program with the introduction of CompTIA Stackable Certifications.

More than 145,000 IT professionals who have attained more than one CompTIA certification were notified today that they've earned a CompTIA Stackable Certification, recognizing their deep expertise and strong commitment to continuous professional development and growth.

"The technology professionals who've earned CompTIA Stackable Certifications have done so by passing rigorous exams developed by the industry to validate the technical and business skills that are in the highest demand in today's economy," said Todd Thibodeaux, president and CEO, CompTIA.

CompTIA Stackable Certifications are aligned across two pathways that serve as the foundation for any IT career: infrastructure and cybersecurity.

"More so than any other certifying body, CompTIA makes extensive use of performance-based questions and simulations in its exams," said James Stanger, CompTIA's chief technology evangelist. "These simulations accurately reflect the real-world scenarios IT pros face daily, requiring test-takers to demonstrate skills in networking, cybersecurity and other areas under the pressure of a timed test."

CompTIA certified IT professionals are eligible for a variety of stackable certifications. For example:

  • CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Network+ = CompTIA IT Operations Specialist
  • CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Linux+ = CompTIA Systems Support Specialist
  • CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Server+ = CompTIA Network Infrastructure Professional
  • CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Cloud+ = CompTIA Cloud Administration Professional
  • CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Security+ = CompTIA Secure Infrastructure Associate
  • CompTIA Security + and CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst = CompTIA Security Analytics Specialist
  • CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst and CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner = CompTIA Security Analytics Expert

CompTIA Stackable Certifications require active CE certifications. Holders of "good-for-life" certifications may earn stackable certifications by re-certifying and validating that their skills are up to date. The complete list of CompTIA Stackable Certifications and eligibility requirements are available at http://certification.comptia.org/certifications/which-certification/stackable-certifications. Certification holders can log into their CompTIA certification account to review the status of their credentials.

CompTIA is the global leader in vendor-neutral technical certifications for IT professionals in skills ranging from IT support and networking, to cybersecurity and cloud computing. CompTIA has awarded more than two million certifications to technology professionals around the world. Operating in more than 100 countries, CompTIA works closely with its 3,000 academic, training and content partners to ensure students and professionals have the tools they need to enter and excel in the tech workforce.

:ehh: Does it automatically go into effect since I already have my A+, Network+, & Security+?

Here's the link from the official CompTIA website: Stackable Certifications

:ohhh: Looks like I'll pursue Net+, Sec+, & maybe even Linux+ after the upcoming spring semester so I can add all 3 of stackable specialist certs to my resume.

Good morning everyone, I want to change careers and jump into the IT field. I had my kid at 24 and just stared working different admin type jobs to support him and the things he needs I just got laid off last Friday from my purchaser position. I’m tired of being expendable, I’m 33 I own a party rental business I run part time and just want more out of life. I have a love for computers and tech...so what carts do you recommend I get my hands on? I know A+ is the foot in the door cert but what kind of pay and jobs does that bring? Thanks everyone! It’s a new year and I just want to get it going right and start making good money.

A+ will mostly get help desk type jobs. The wage depends on your location. But what you really need to think about is what you want to do afterwards. Networking, security, admin, etc. All have good upside and will pay well. Depends more on what interests you..

My nikka. I was looking at Helpdesk salaries and the starting is lower than I make now but I’m trying to get my foot in the door in IT so I might make the sacrifice. Someone on here hooked me up with a QA connect that is the fastest way into IT and you don’t really gotta know much technical shyt. So I’m just weighing options. Appreciate it.

You trying to do QA or whatever you can in IT?

QA is changing. Most jobs are being eliminated due to automation and the ones that are left want people with programming/scripting experience (for more automation). The days of logging into a test environment and performing transactions in order to test are almost over.

Definitely bro. I've been doing consulting for the last few years, it pays well but it's not consistent. And I've been interested in getting in IT for a few years. I've been using computers since 1998, but I really have no IT experience other than some basic coding knowledge. (And I'm talking super basic) But I found coding too tedious.

My man on here told me QA is the easiest path to a career in IT, and it doesn't involve a lot of the complex stuff. But I don't really know where to get the proper training. I have no college degree.

I was gonna work on getting my A+ Cert, then move on to Security Cert. I know I'll probably start at Helpdesk, which is lower pay than I make now, but at least I'd have my foot in the door in a career I want.

But Quality Assurance is my first choice, just not sure where to start. But I'm trying to get into IT, anyway possible.
