no, we're debating whether racism is worse now than ever before.

Ok, so go ahead, explain how we could possibly have it better even if racism is worse. The coli seems to agree that racism is a system of oppression, where is the logic in claiming that racism is worse than ever if we're not as oppressed as before? :stopitslime:

Worse, cacs get the beats in some areas bruv, they stay near the airport now. Before they used to have countrymen carry them on their backs. Now cacs carry their own luggage, get taxed triple, and get a slapping if they talk too loud. Only political officials get a pass, and that's because touching them comes with huge fines and jail time. :whoa:

Anytime you are not only allowed to openly express your negative beliefs and feelings but that the expresses of those beliefs and feelings are also STATE SPONSORED, it will always be a more worse time back then.

There's a reason racist always claiming the south will rise again, them fools praying for them good ole days to return.

Explain how I killed my argument by saying I'm a history phD student..this outta be good :stringerexplain:

Because there was a time when they wouldn't let you get that phD or pick up a book for that matter. I really wonder how many of you lived this oppression you talk about. You guys stay sprouting that prison complex stuff and are quick to look up some stat, how many of you speak from experience? How many times have you been in front of a judge? or even in a courtroom for that matter. How many of you have friends with long rap sheets? nikka aren't out here getting life after commiting one crime.

What I would love to see, is people start speaking from their own experiences on here and stop recommending look up this stat or read this book. I found it funny that in this own thread you have @Matt504 saying " If you visit low income black communities" must be nice to "visit" those places huh?

it's your opinion that we're not as oppressed as before. yes, we have cellphones and MacBooks and civil rights, what good are those "rights" when Blacks in America are consistently wronged?

there's a reason why black on black crime is so high, higher than it was during slavery by far, and it's because of OPPRESSION.

Where are your numbers on black on black crime during slavery? Didn't know they kept statistics back then :mjpls:

The unknown
And not a damn thing has changed.

-you're not getting your life threatened for not picking cotton
- you can sit anywhere on a bus
-you can go to any college you want
-you can go to any store you want
- you arent getting hosed for protesting...
etc...

again I understand where you are coming from....its not all sunny days for us minorities in the present. I'd be an idiot to even think that for a second. With progression comes more problems/situations to hold us back, but I still would argue that none of it is as brutal as it was in the past. Our ancestors fought just to give us the rights we have in the first place

yes visit because I no longer live in those communities, but I was born and raised in them for more than 18 years of my life. I'm speaking from real life experience.

you're right, it's totally plausible to assume that slaves had guns with extended clips at their disposal to kill large groups of fellow slaves while speeding through the field on the backs of horses.

Again, you're trying to change the subject. You said that black on black crime is far greater now than back then. Please produce some numbers :beli:

I hope this part is not dedicated to me because my posts tell you differently; I was born and raised in those communities and I have spent my adult life working in those same communities, so I will pass that bolded part over

As for my argument I will state it again for the fourth time: I argue that racial oppression is not worse or better; it has transformed in method and mechanization based on the political economy and the resistance of the black masses. The question in the OP is not relevant because it does not incorporate the fractures and fissures throughout history that shifted how racial oppression behaves and how race, capital, and class intersected; Black Racial Formation and Transformation Theory provides a perfect sociohistorical context for us to gauge racial capitalist oppression and its connection to the position of the black masses in the political economy.

As for my own oppression, I was born and raised in southwest Atlanta, one of the poorest parts of the city. My parents are working class who worked their ass off everyday just so we could eat; My father and I have both been harassed by police; my mother was spit on numerous times when she was a gilr integrating Atlanta Public Schools system, I watched my community degenerate over the years; I didn't live the oppression, breh; I LIVE it today and everyday for the rest of my life and it is VASTLY different from 100 years ago, but oppression is oppression and that's why I have dedicated my life to fighting it.
