"When you see white people spraying black people with hoses and sending dogs at them, and beating them with sticks in the 1960s....that's just white people being nice. Nicer than they were in the 20s, 30s and 40s. Man, there are black people in heaven now that died in the 30s, looking down like "Man, them brothers got it good!' "

nah, matts verified

but real talk i think this influx of social media prejudice has gotten a lot of black folks feeling like they back in the 50's or something.

We grew up hearing stories about racism from our parents and grandparents and going to school where we were being fed with the narrative that everything is going to be alright from now on because of Civil Rights so you get in this era, hitting the real world, the job market etc. and you see white people telling you how they REALLY feel with the most vigor and unabashed confidence since fukking 1952 some people really are going to think "this is the worst ever." It's not, but it is pretty damn bad.

There are multiple factors in this question, if you are a part of the poorest section of the Black community the end of the most stringent racism has helped you somewhat (and I emphasize the somewhat) however it should be acknowledged has allowed a sizeable amount of the black poor to escape poverty , but like everything involving the poor you are still hit the hardest in things like finding a decent paying job, education healthcare, etc which is still fairly bad for the majority in that segment and often kept bad based on a double hitter combo of Racialism and anti-poverty sentiment from the "Middle Class" and upper income brackets.

The great recession pretty much wiped away a boat load of income gains for those in the Black "Middle Class" made in the 90's, which has once again made a lot more Blacks vulnerable to the racially based elements in the American economy which combined with a lot of the White "Middle Class" hurting could cause (and is causing) a very toxic and tense racial environment.

in summary if you were Black working poor racial environment improved for you the least, Middle Class ate a good bit bigger portions (for a while), and the Richest in our community got obese from eating so much.

Oh, I'm down for a completely open discussion. I'm just exploiting a chink in the armor of that quote. Feel free to add any more insightful quotes from Mr. Rock. :sas1:
