LG makes the panels for both, Sony makes their own internals, so it's their processing and design feature wise.

I have an lg oled 4K, and I too think the HDR isn't as noticeable I would have thought. I know I'm in HDR because my tv tells me that it is. It was very noticeable with Infamous: Second Son though. It is pretty cool. With most other games though, I wouldn't know HDR was on if my TV didn't tell me...
