Or Tyson was blessed not to have fought any of the all-time greats. It's not a secret that Tyson was weak mentally, and pretty much folded whenever someone wasn't scared of him and actually challenged him. And that is why I give Holyfield an advantage over any incarnation of Tyson. Tyson's "top-five" legacy is built on what he could have/would have done, and not what he did.

I give Tyson credit because he beat the guys who were in front of him and it's not as though he was ducking people. But once he lost, his shyt went downhill with the quickness (obviously aided by the prison sentence, but, oh well).

What is this based off of. Is that just some type of character flaw based on your opinion?

Everybody knows Tyson was a wash after that 3 year stint in jail.

This

and to add to that...
Rocky's competition wasn't even better than Tyson's if dudes wanna be real with it. Both guys came around in transitional periods of the heavyweight divisions and feasted on fighters that were past their primes. The difference is one guy remained undefeated while the other guy didn't and had a longer career.

People say say certain things about Tyson because they feel it's the popular thing to say. Tyson only beat guys he intimidated. Tyson never beat a good fighter, Tyson was crazy, Tyson can't beat tall fighters, Tyson etc...

There were lots of cats that weren't afraid of Tyson but still got they soul taken. nikkas say Tyson can't fight tall guys, but Tyson was like only 5'11 so pretty much every nikka he fought was tall. Most heavy's in the 80's were round 6'3 or 6'4 anyways.

The point I'm making is that every boxer can be overrated or underrated when you nit pick the fukk out of they career and scrutinize every fight they had. It's just that it happens more to guys who are ultra popular like Tyson.

This about wraps it up

The Sweet Science
Tyson at his best(18-19 years old only sadly enough) is a top 5 heavy all time but in terms of his overall career hes prolly 10-20.

Marciano mos def the most overrated! He was a mob fighter, who knows how many of his opponents took a dive to avoid getting they kneecaps broken and he prolly loaded his gloves too amongst other cheap sh!t

Yeah and he wasn't good against tall fighters who fought tall.

That and he is mentally weak. The moment someone wasn't scared of him he couldn't deal with it.

Your post made him out to be the greatest HW boxer ever. Tyson had great movement but it was never as good Ali's.

Tyson wasn't a brawled or stuff like that but he wasn't an unstoppable force.

like who and at what point in his career?

Exactly. With Tyson, everyone plays the "what if" game instead of looking at his actual body of work.

he quit against Holyfield twice, gave up and got KO'd by Buster Douglas, and I won't mention the farces he put forth after Lewis.

You really think they gonna let Tyson rush them? They have jabs that hurt and keep that at a distance.

Although I should clarify myself, I think they would beat Tyson but I would have Tyson over those two in the ATG rankings.

Dope post. Him beating every fighter off fear is a myth. :flabbynsick:, Pinklon Thomas, James Tillis, Mitch Green, Bonecrusher Smith...they werent shook and Mike still handled business. Some taller ones gave prime and focused Mike problems, but nothing significant to the point that victory was ever in doubt

This is bullshyt that's constantly regurgitated. Who were all these fighters that were willing to stand up to him and made him fold? There was a decent amount of fights in his career where the guy he was fighting came straight at him. From what I remember Ruddock was a great example of that. Where was Tyson folding then?

Forget heavyweight, Marciano is the most overrated boxer of all time...

The only prime great champ Marciano ever fought was Ezzard Charles who got blatantly robbed the first time around...Charles busted Marciano up and had him leaking so bad they had to stuff gauze in his nose...That shyt was unheard of even back then...Marciano was only allowed to continue because of his mob connection...Those gwops weren't going to lose money over a fukkin nosebleed...

He also blatantly ducked a young Sonny Liston who would have obliterated that nikka...It was ok for Marciano to make a HOF career out of fighting old dudes forced out of retirement but when he was on the wrong side of 30 he wanted no part of a young cat like Liston and quickly retired...It's also worth noting Liston was a green HW and Marciano was still petrified of him...

People are more enamored with the myth of Mike Tyson..the "what if" with him..more so than the actual fighter

Pretty much, but yea, Marciano may very well be the most overrated Heavyweight of all time.

To be fair a lot of fighters from that day and age are overrated like a muhfukker. Them oldheads be on that :duck:

Marciano is overrated simply because he is white and retired undefeated. It's pretty much that simple. Rocky was maybe 190 pounds soaking wet. What would he be able to do with a prime Tyson, Ali, Frazier, Foreman etc. Nothing but be like Jerry Quarry and the rest of the great white hypes. But i tell u two heavyweights that will be underrated because of competion but would give and probably beat a great deal of the great hevyweights. And that's the two Klitscho brothers. Those boys are huge and can actually box with an awkard style. Everyone thinks Vlad is better but Vitali has never been knocked out and is more of a fighter to me. It's a reason why Lennox didn't want to step back in the ring with that man.
