name some other movies Denzel was great in? I don't care what yall say. Denzel has limited range and basically plays the same role over and over. Outside of X.
:patrice: nah i can't 100% co-sign that.

denzel is an extraordinary actor, but he goes about his career like a 9 to 5, so the roles he takes are a lot of times for the pay check

but when he steps out and wants to challenge himself he kills it - Glory, Malcolm X, Hurricane, Cry Freedom, He got Game...

Idris is not on Denzel level at all and I fukks with Idris.

I understand beast of no nation is a great movie but lets be real here! Denzel has a great catalogue of films and is a better actor. Idris has to do more before he can be considered near Denzel....We forget that Denzel does stage work and killed 'A Raisin in the sun' on broadway.

NEW YORK CITY
I'm from New York, and it doesn't matter whether I live in England or not, because I'm referring to their intercultural disposition worldwide. And I have good size amount of friends and family from both the U.K. and Africa. It's very clear to see that their perspective isn't preoccupied with skin color being seen as a disadvantage the way it is for many black Americans.

The black American mindset is dysfunctional, however it's the only one which has prevailed after centuries of compulsory ignorance and marginalization, that I can say. But the reason these blacks from other countries do well and can seamlessly insert themselves into other cultures and countries is because they have a sense of pride black Americans simply do not, which is cultural and heritage pride.

It;s obvious why :beli:. The black american dynamic is completely different

And as far as blacks being dysfunctional, you africans really need to look in the mirror:beli:

Denzel fell off. for the past years he's been doing mostly action flicks
The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3
The Book of Eli
Unstoppable
Safe House
2 Guns
The Equalizer
Flight being the exception
Doing the same shyt as liam neeson. Doing average movies for lots of money
Next years he's starring in a western witch is a remake of a remake

some of that's the industry though, even kevin costner made one of those liam neeson type action flicks trying to cash in

denzel's always approached his job like a working class dude, he says this himself...clearly he's not about to play in some crazy bullshyt, but every time out he doesn't have to try and get an oscar like daniel day lewis or something

i dont think DDL is trying to get an oscar for every role he gets. He just picks his roles carefully because he doesn't want to live his life on a set of a movie, he's like the anti Cage. Kevin costner is bad example because he is a terrible actor. Look at Pacino and De niro, great actors making fools of themselves and ruining their legacy

:mjlol: no i agree, i'm just saying the "50+ year old action star" is a bankable genre, i bet that's about 95% of the scripts denzel gets now, something where he's running around with a gun..

speaking of which i just saw THE GUNMAN on netflix weird as hell watching sean penn run around in an action movie

Accent might have been shaky (especially cry freedom/diction in much ado) but you can never knock his "acting". Idris is still yet to have that career defining performance on film and has been living off stringer bell for dear life. Surprised this thread is actually a serious debate. Ppl say denzel plays the same roles but in those roles you will see many facets of that character cuz denzel can emote like a mother........ Idris (like many actors today) might play varying parts but are they memorable, do they stay with you? Dude has like 2 facial express, if he ain't squinting then he just looks exasperated, mediocre actor

People saying Denzel plays the same character as a point of critique as if Elba isn't always playing the same physically imposing gruffy character in everything he does :mjlol:

Your right Elba's still living off one performance, fukk has he has done that's memorable outside of The Wire?, even got outshined and outperformed by Ruth Wilson on his own show :mjlol:@ anyone seriously putting him anywhere close to Denzel.

Elba makes that show "Luther". His charisma makes that show great, because the writing is pretty average. Go watch beasts of no nation, Mandela. Im not saying he's a beter actor than denzel but to say his only memorable work is the wire is :usure::mjlol:

Ruth Wilson was better than him in that show, better acted and better character.

I've watched Beasts of No Nation and I saw Elba once again outshined and him playing yet another gruffy physically imposing authorative character. His performance wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't extraordinary and that good. Someone like Forest (another actor Elba aint touching) would have done a far better job and fully blown it out of the water.

But the Wire is his only memorable work and he is still living off "Stringer Bell":mjlol:, what unanimously defining performance has he done outside of it? Mandela came out just two years ago and everyones already forgotten about his performance in it :mjlol:
