A great actor could also be a movie star and they do have a "type"a great actor should not have a "type"
i guess im the only one that thinks that Denzel's performance in training day is a bit overrated? It was a bit over the top and over acted. Imo hollyhood gave him the oscar because they robbed him of the award in Malcom X. Russel crowe had to win that oscar. I mean A beautiful mind won best director and best movie but russell crowe who made that movie didnt win best actor
watch training day and watch a beautiful mind and tell me who had the better performance. I remember crowe had some sort of PR problem. Beating a reporter or something. I think because of that he didnt win. That and the fact that he won it the previous year for his role in gladiator. Denzels performances in Malcom X, The hurricane and Philadelphia are better than his performance in training dayNah man. When I saw that movie I literally told my date that he'd be nominated for that role, didn't think he'd win though
Go watch the preachers wife then watch training day, Denzel's range is legendary

idris can do all accentsAccent might have been shaky (especially cry freedom/diction in much ado) but you can never knock his "acting". Idris is still yet to have that career defining performance on film and has been living off stringer bell for dear life. Surprised this thread is actually a serious debate. Ppl say denzel plays the same roles but in those roles you will see many facets of that character cuz denzel can emote like a mother........ Idris (like many actors today) might play varying parts but are they memorable, do they stay with you? Dude has like 2 facial express, if he ain't squinting then he just looks exasperated, mediocre actor
and you think that was a good accent?Denzel Played Steve Biko in the 80's ... in cry freedom.
I don't think Denzel could pull this off, Idris effortlessly blends in with these people like it's nothing, you almost forget he is an A-list hollywood actor

It's because his parents are African, his father was Sierra Leonean and his mother was Ghanaian. Beasts of No Nation was written by an Ibgo Nigerian, and although the town was fictional, it's ostensibly a Nigerian country as the kid Agu speaks in British Nigerian dialect, The young actor who plays Agu, is Ghanaian.
Unlike so many misguided black Americans, Africans and black people who live in the U.K. do not see black as race, but a skin color. Their confidence derives from their cultural background and communities allowing them to be proud and unaffected by internalized racism the way black Americans are. So many beautiful black people are products of intercultural marriages, like Nicole Beharie who's Nigerian and Jamaican.

the part where you said English black people don't see 'black' as a race is utter bullshyt
Phillips said: “We have moved on from the days of racial hostility but we are still in a state of acute discomfort about racial difference.”

He said he was doubtful that people’s actual views on race fluctuated sharply year on year, and instead thought events had made people more or less comfortable voicing how they really felt. “They are emboldened at certain points to discuss their discomfort. There is far less interpersonal bigotry and abuse. People don’t hate other people because of their colour, as would have been the case 50 years ago. But that is different to saying: ‘Do I feel comfortable in the company of a lot of people who are not like myself?’
Racism on the rise in Britain
where in england do you live?I've noticed a trend with some of you Coli posters, whenever I post something informative and most importantly OBJECTIVE, it's usually attacked with a baseless and SUBJECTIVE retort rooted in raw ignorance.
