is Idris elba a better actor than Denzel?

Idris seems to be an extremely talented actor, but he needs to prove it. Nothing in his current body of work is touching Denzel's best movies.

that brotha can act his ass off....although i knew it wouldnt happen, i wouldve loved for him to be lex luthor in the new bats vs sup movie...he wouldve been able to pull off lex so easily...

I wish he could have been any villain in any flick after shaft.
Duke is so crazy an actor he just becomes the person on screen.
Where even if he does not look the part like in boycott as mlk.
He still becomes mlk, that your mind just transposes or just completely ignores he may not look the part.
Incredible actor, one of the best on screen film personalities in the industry.
If he was white, he would probably get Robert Downey style parts.

Denzel is a great actor...but get off that nikka dikk...Idris has starred in series that have won awards and has bad critical acclaim in alot of his parts

Some good points being made in here from both spectrums

But it does seem like most of these cats know idris just from the wire, Thor, and that Tyler Perry movie - please keep in mind that be played Mandela in his biopic too

couple thoughts:

- no, he's not....people really sleep/underrate denzel's skills...the dude is a monster and one of the best to ever do it....the fact he just makes that shyt look so easy/effortless, people miss/disregard the skill, and go with the 'he plays the same role' hating bullshyt....seriously, the dude does theater with the best of them....if he couldnt act, that wouldnt be the case....

- with that said, idris is damn good and has a chance to be this generation's 'denzel' type lead black actor....by that i mean becoming bankable and known as one of the best in hollywood at this time, no matter the role/movie.....that's why i really hope he gets the bond role...think he'd kill it and it'd really show his skills...

- hope they do another movie together....this time with them interacting more than they did in american gangster...think we would get some great acting from the 2 of them feeding off each other...the younger, future legend wanting to hold his own/show & prove with the older legend; while the older legend wants to show he still got it while holding his own with the younger, future legend...it'd be great....

- since we speaking of cats potentially being a 'denzel' type in hollywood, that brotha michael b jordan might have next....if he shows he can carry creed, oh my damn....the sky is the limit....

Not feelin Michael b. jordan on this level at all.

Denzel can do anything. He is one of the few actors that can carry a shyt script. There are only a few actors that can get with Denzel. Daniel Day Lewis is probably the only cat id say is as good or better.

he cant do anything because he can't do accents.

the reason i throw him in there is cause:

1. he has good acting skills that are improving film to film....
2. he's killed smaller roles and/or carried smaller movies so far...
3. he has that 'it' factor that draws people to his performance, no matter if he the star, co-star, or just a throw away character....

....to me, creed is gonna be the first big movie we'll see if he can carry by himself for the most part...yea, it has nostalgia going for it, but he's the one that's gonna have to shoulder most of this movie cause there are no special effects to keep our attention.....and i think if he kills the role and creed is successful, he's gonna def have next...that's when we'll see him thrown in a movie(s) with more established actors with skills and see what's up....

if not for fruitvale I would say the same. Dude just doesn't have a likeable screen presence and his acting is stuck in 1 gear

key word ..."styles" denzel only has 1 style....= no acting range.
