That's some profound hate esp picking a very prime 140 version of Cotto to lose to a brittle handed slickster...shyt in contrast i wanted paulie to get the beating of his life....have to respect it lol
I know right.
I wasn't a fan of either, but I just hated Cotto more since he was getting all the hype for beating up Floyd leftovers, but outweighing them (Sosa) or going life and death with them (Corely)
I knew Paulie could box a bit and use his movement to control the fights. Paulie was actually competitive and took some late rounds. I had him winning about 4 total, but at the end of the day he got his ass kicked. He Wasn't dominated like he was against Hatton and Porter, but beaten soundly nonetheless. I thought he looked better against Cotto than Broner, simply for the fact you could see Paulie land some shots. Against Broner, nikka missed damn near everything and cats were just giving him rounds because he threw more punches.
That fight (Cotto/Paulie) taught me that you can't get emotionally vested into these boxers when making predictions.
I remember paulie staggering cotto late in a fight...I hated everything about paulie back then but he had some heart...it took cotto breaking bones in his face and jaw to humble him a little..cotto in those days I was indifferent too but then that cotto and present day cotto are almost day and night...present day cotto disgusts me
Yeah Paulie buzzed him with something late. I actually rewatched that fight some months ago, I think I posted about it in the OG thread. Paulie's defense let him down in that fight just like it does whenever he faces elite or B level guys. It's just that he was undefeated against Cotto so he showed extra heart and fought back more than he usually does when he's getting his ass kicked.
@krackdagawd and @Mook was watching that fight and the fight with Hatton like

I was there live for the Cotto fight
Hes got power he just cant use it
Both Paul Williams AND Margarito would've given Floyd huge problems
Paul Williams is overrated like a mutherfukker on here and I'm a fan. Floyd would never lose to a Paul Williams. Paul Williams never used his height and honestly fought pretty stupid in a lot of his fights
Margarito would've walked through all Floyds punches.. Floyd would've had to be on his bike for 12 rounds straight, probably breaks his hand too
i dont think ppl realize the type of pressure margarito was putting on cats in the 2000s...he holds the record for most punches thrown in a fight for a reason...he was a very dangerous welterweight in his prime
ThisIs he in the conversation, yes
Is he one OF the best, yes
Is he THE best, no
ThisThe best boxer ever? Yes. Nobody has ever been as complete of a boxer as Floyd. Chin, jab, defense, inside fighting, distance fighting, counter, lead, in the pocket, angles, foot work, adjustments, etc. You may like others more or have an affection for other fighters accomplishments, but no fighter ever has been more technically better at the sport than Floyd.
Name a greater technician? @Champ_KW is saying that Floyd is the best boxer ever. If he's not, he damn sure is top 3.Come on breh
Floyd cutting punch output in half is because he so smart and moves so well, other fighters size him up like Dude is like a snake in there. Plus because he's a great counter-puncher, he has fighters out-thinking themselves.Floyd and Lara are about the same size, Lara probably has the longer reach I have to look it up, But the results imo would have been basically the same against Floyd. His biggest strength against FM would have been his activity level, problem with that like everybody else Floyd is cutting your punch output in half. 9" reach advantage means nothing if you don't utilize it which Pwill never did. Which is why I always felt he should have mimic T.Hearns style, fighting Mexican style against Floyd is dumb honestly. JLC was only successful the 1st fight against FM because of his hand being damage, Madaina was somewhat successful because Floyd stayed on the ropes and fought on the inside a lot that fight, same with Cotto. If not for Margarito slow start in that fight he would've won. PWill barely held on to win and it was basically due to the first 6 rds.
I do agree Diego would have lost against Paul, because styles make fights and Diego tendency to get caught up in brawling would've worked against him. But from a Technical standpoint Chico was the better boxer of the 2 imo.
