i dont think pulling straight back is wrong but it can be wrong because by pulling back in a straight line you can be forced back in a straight line and get pinned to the ropes or back into a corner.

the reason that you see circular movement in boxing is because the ring is a square. you use circular movement to avoid being forced back in a straight line to the ropes or into a corner.

the reason that floyd doesnt give away his pull counter is because he shows you that pull back movement a lot

Aqk1pT3.gif

and when floyd does throw a pull counter it comes out of nowhere because you have to guess which one of those pull back movements is going to turn into a pull counter and when you fight floyd thats like looking for a needle in a haystack.

its a guessing game but when you guess right you win big because the motion of your counter right hand is naturally slipping the pull counter through the space that you have next to you right ear and over your right shoulder.

Where do you have floyd ranked all time ?

i think the highest you can have floyd pound for pound is at 5. i have sugar ray robinson at 1 sugar ray leonard at 2 roy jones jr at 3 and pernell whitaker at 4. i dont think theres anybody in boxing that you can throw in a ring and beat a fighter like sugar ray robinson or a fighter like roy jones jr at their peaks. i think sugar ray leonard would ko miguel cotto inside of four rounds and pernell whitaker would shut out marcos maidana with one hand tied behind his back. theres nobody i would pick to beat these guys at their peaks but i think floyd would have a very hard time with fighters like henry armstrong or aaron pryor. i would stand in quicksand to see floyd fight aaron pryor and i think in a hundred fights floyd probably beats pryor about as many times as pryor beats floyd. i would say that ranks floyd anywhere from 5-15 pound for pound and i can see an argument for having floyd anywhere around that range. i dont think i could have floyd ahead of guys like ricardo lopez or ezzard charles with a lot of certainty.

i agree with the bolded
fair assessment
although leonard did lose in his peak against duran
in my opinion, i don't think you can put him and pernell in the same pound for pound class as Ray Robinson and Roy jones
those guys were unbeatable in their prime

i can't put sweet pea ahead of floyd either

also, i think ppl somethings forget that floyd hasn't been in his PRIME for several years
maidana wasn't his prime
cotto wasn't his prime either or at his best weight

floyd at his very best in my opinion is the class of the sugar ray's the thomas's hearns and duran's. now if ppl think each of those fighters can beat him, its a worthy debate but i feel he has been dominant and skilled enough to be in the mix with those guys

i think that ray proved superiority over duran in the 23 rounds they fought and that he was ultimately the best fighter out of the fab four and i think whitaker beats every fighter floyd fought and he wins more rounds doing it. floyd is in the mix but i think the further away you get from sugar ray robinson the harder it is for pound for pound to really mean anything because there are a lot of guys can be argued to be in the mix.

this is all truth
:yeshrug:
plus i honestly dont think arum for saw mayweathe becoming this big of a star

i expect casuals and floyd haters to come with the he ducked margarito crap cause they know no better

floyd made a smart business move, made a bet on himself and won:yeshrug:

i keep trying to tell ppl that floyd could care less about margarito:russ:
didnt even want a shyt load of money to fight him

he was focusing on guys who had bigger draws like cotto hatton de la hoya so he could get his name out ther

dog... your saying margs when he smoked cotto the first time wasn't the DRAW at 147???? seriously... where was floyd... retired... lol

i have never understood floyd stand NOT WANTING him to fight the best to prove his skills... AT ALL TIMES... WHY CAPE EVER for this guy...

ima huge pacman fan... and i wanted and LUCKED out in seeing him fight cotto, margs, hell marquez 4 times... barrera , morales.. etc...

why wouldn't i want him to fight the best possible opposition... thats a burden on them

why wouldn't you want to see him fight p will and margs... its as if YOU THINK YOUR DISSING YOUR FAV FIGHTER BY expecting him to fight the best fighters ALL THE TIME..

why can't you be a floyd fan and demand him to fight all the best fighters always...

guy was picasso in the ring... no doubt... why cape for garbage ass fights and not demand or criticize for more...

you'll never see true boxing fans diss may weather at the lower weights.. he was fighting all killers and top guys.. he had to...

if you were into boxing at that time.. you knew these guys p will and margs were top of the class.. all this revisionist history ppl throwing in now.. at the time null and void.. .if may wanted to make those fights they would've been made... AFTER DLH FIGHT MAY COULDVE MADE ANY FIGHT HE WANTED BERTO ORTIZ OR GUERREO STYLE... he didn't.. he didn't want to... that speaks VOLUMES...

you want to rank him in the pantheon of greats.. THIS SHOULD WEIGH HEAVILY..!!!! somebody should go do the math of what were the odds of all of mays fights... how many 10 -1 or 20-1 fights vs. pick em fights he had... that should speak volumes of the competition ..

it doesn't take away the great boxer mayeater is.. but you have to take into account this when placing him up against other greats...

people here act as if may couldn't have fought all of those fighters back to back or whenever he wanted.. he could've but didn't..

Can't believe this thread is still poppin :heh:

Floyd defensive wizard setup in the pocket nice and accurate with both hands would have had issues with Margs and P-Dub aye

Floyd retired P-Dub is paralyzed and out of boxing Margarito is a cyclops all that stuff is talking point vs talking point.

Even funnier, this page is almost 150 replies deep with little to no technical boxing talk

ill say it again... floyd at the time was new to 147 and imo not filled out like was later... the jump to fight dlh... look at that fight..

i dont agree it was a close fight but it wasn't one sided either.. floyd came in at 150 i think...

at that time floyd wouldve had to go twelve rounds with pressure fighters with volume(one who hit hard, one who didn't but prob a better boxer) margs and williams..

at that time floyd wouldve been challenged to the max...

but again.. not the same floyd that fought canelo imo... that was already a seasoned 6 year difference... and if y ou don't think this is a big deal your crazy...

again.. to me .. i KNOW IT WAS A DUCK cause he would go on and on about how they had losses and nobody knew who they were blah blah.. but then years later try to force down ppls throat worse fighters with worse records who were bums...

as a fight fan you can't deny that vs margs or PWILL they wouldve been better fights than most of floyd reign at 147... THIS NO FLOYD STAN CAN DENY...

Please not Margarito a; taller, power and volume puncher(s) it's floyds kryponite (Corrales tho ::mjcry:)
No not a volume puncher who throws looping jabs and is a southpaw ala P Will (Manny and Zab tho :mjcry:)

Some of you guys are hilarious
the only fighter floyds had issues with recently has been Maidana who possess only one of those qualities (power) and @Yuzo was the ONLY one who called that being a tough fight, based off the last :20 in one round of a 12 rd fight (Baldomir)

I sometimes forget few of you know technical boxing and have been in the ring. The only one who has and actively shades Floyd is @patscorpio and we all know that shyt is personal with him.

Step y'all games up

Exactly, Exactly, Exact-fukking-ly:whew:

nikkas dismissing a Floyd fight with Paul Williams and Margs like they weren't near the Top of 147 in 2006 (Margs was RING ranked #1 when Floyd turned down the fight in 2006 & 2008 while Paul Williams was #9 in 2006 and #2 in 2007)

It's crazy to me breh:yeshrug:

This is all a flat out lie breh.

And I said Maidana would push Floyd as well:ufdup:

Also, Breadman has NEVER boxed before...but yet he's more knowledgeable about Boxing than anyone on this site and still is a great trainer.:comeon:

:dwillhuh:he's not????, He's top 10 tho......Right?
Exactly.

Mike Tyson made more than any other Heavyweight in history....easily. And he's STILL not a Top 5 Heavyweight of All-Time.

Oscar De La Hoya made more than anyone in Boxing history besides Floyd Mayweather.....he's STILL not a Top 25 Boxer to ever live

His knowledge of the sport came from when he listened and he watched and he listened to the Lox. He never was sparring and neither was Max Kellerman who is also extremely knowledgeable without putting on a pair of 16 oz himself:obama:
