Current gig I'm spending a lot of time at, by far the most attractive woman (and really nice personality too) is this girl about 25 or so. She's dating a coworker who is about 30. I asked her a few days ago what inspired her to go with him, and she said it's the way he always treats everyone with kindness no matter who they are. The problem with cheap first dates is that the relationship pretty much stays in that cheap date realm.

At some point you need to see your potential partner in nice clothes, see how they behave in certain circles, etc. During the dating process you are getting to know the other person and vetting them to see if they can meet your standards.

A lot of women will tell you that they regret not setting the bar higher at the start of the relationship because their man never bossed up and got comfortable.

I definitely understand the cash crunch especially for young dudes. But a lot of middle aged and older men are also cash strapped due to poor choices like low educational attainment, child support, and a general malaise around becoming a high earner.

Their female counterparts out-earn them and despite many having children they still have more disposable income than the men. It’s rough out here.

Cheap dates have WAY more to do with LTR realties than no black tie shyt.

When you're actually married, how often do you put on the fancy clothes and spend a bunch of money to go out? On your anniversary once a year? Maybe for a birthday, at least before kids come along? That's not reality. Everyday reality is making your own damn food or getting something quick and cheap and spending time together. That is the actual rhythm of a long term relationship, and how y'all do with that determines whether the relationship will work, not no expensive restaurant bullshyt.

The main time you're going to see your partner "in nice clothes, how they behave in certain circles" is at weddings, funerals, church, and work events. And if knowing how they perform in that environment is important to you.....then take them there. Take them to church. Take them to the fancy work party. Take them to your cousin's wedding. That's a hell of a lot more realistic for what married life is like than some $200 meal at an overpriced French restaurant.
