I think we can all agree that these are the only men who hit KING OF NEW YORK status....

Jay couldn't do that with Pac and Big still alive. Nas was selling millions with them.

Naaaaah. This argument never made sense to me.

Record sales in Hip Hop were at an all-time high during that stretch. People didn't buy one or the other, we bought everything! So if Pac and B.I.G. were still alive in '98, we would've copped their sh*t, the same way we did Jay's. The real fans back then bought literally everything that dropped from the people you liked. You didn't just get one.

I went to HMV as a kid, and copped Tha Doggfather, Hell on Earth and Ill Na Na at the same time. In '95, I copped Doe or Die and Dogg Food, at the same time. That's how we did it back then. Whoever dropped that was dope, was getting bought.

Nah, Vol.1 was definitely better than Vol. 2.

I love both, but Vol.1 is one of Jay's best albums. Top 5 for him.
Consensus wise vol 2>>
No it wasn't. But even if u do feel this way. Jay's albums got progressively worse? Correct? That's the point ya man's was tryna make about Nas.
why do u think people thought nas was done after Nastradamus?

I guess nikkas ain't get the memo about Jay in 96. On top of that. He was being promoted by The Nutty Professor soundtrack. Lol. But seriously This is cap tho. Cause if that was the case. Mobb Deep would've been platinum. They didn't go platinum until Murda Musik. The Infamous was Gold. Hell On Earth was gold. And people loved them shyts. U nikkas stay tryna downplay Nas' success its mad corny.

Nah, Jay was like LL...off and on.

Vol. 3 was weak, to me. But then Dynasty was dope. Jay started getting inconsistent after TBA.

But yeah, Nas was getting worse. He's said so himself. Illmatic, IWW to I Am and Nastradamus. Nas's best two albums are his first two. And this is my guy, but I have to be honest. 30 years in, his best sh*t was dropped in the first two years of his career. So Clad's right about that. Nas definitely got off course for a minute. And dude is one of my favorites, but I'd be lying if I say I listen to most of his catalogue. His 90's sh*t is what I spin, mostly.

You have to remember Mobb's budget in '94-'95, when they recorded The Infamous and HOE wasn't the same when they went over to Columbia under Loud in '99. RCA didn't have the bread to bet on them when they signed the first deal. They were still unproven and coming off a flop. So they weren't even pressing and shipping enough units to push them to a million in the mid-90's. They couldn't afford it. When Columbia picked the label up, you saw Havoc speaking about how he was able to build his own studio and do more because now their distribution and budget was crazier.

It's the same thing that kept EPMD at gold forever. Labels don’t always have the bread or will to go back in and invest more to push albums to sell more. A lot of times, they're perfectly cool with a gold plaque.

That doesn't have anything to do with Nas. I don’t even know what you meant by that. But that's why Mobb was able to sell more in '99.

Everyone I know, including people I speak with on here, all like Vol. 1 better.

It just depends on who you ask. There's no real wrong answer there. It could go either way.

I wouldn't say IWW was a decline. That's his last untouchable album.

Nas still had it in '96-'98 though. But I'll be real, after I Am, it got to a point where I was only liking 1-2 songs per Nas project. And that sh*t made me depressed as a MF. LOL!! So you're right about the quality. I don’t know what happened with dude. But he wasn't the same after the 90's. I've been saying that since back then.

Im going by consensus brother. In no world is IWW considered better than or equal to Illmatic by the majority

That list is based on what i hear from most Nas stans

There's people on here who didn't even hear Illmatic until years after it dropped, but love IWW because that was their first Nas album. I like Illmatic better, but I know there's mad people who don’t. So I don’t know about all this "consensus" sh*t, bro. LOL!!

I love Illmatic and think it's his best, but I know a lot of people who say IWW is. There's no right answer with that one.

That's media though.

I'm talking about the actual fans. There was just a poll on here recently. That sh*t was close. I think lllmatic is one of the greatest ever too. But that's me. I'd be lying if I said I didn't see mad people saying that IWW was Nas's best album. I see people saying that sh*t all day. Same way I see people saying HOE is better than The Infamous. Which it's not.
