When I first watched The Wire I originally thought Avon and String was on equal level, but then I noticed how much they stressed about how the Barksdale family ruled them towers for generations so I knew Avon was more important.

Also add the fact that they hid Avon's identity to the point where the police didn't know what he looked like meanwhile they all knew Stringer was made me realized that Stringer was expandable while Avon had to be protected at all cost.

Nah man. I gotta disagree. Marlo was never painted as smart. This is the same dude that had a new car in his own name, with no income. String had to tell him how stupid that was for him to even notice it. So the chances of him even entertaining the thought of "these legit business guys might hustle me" is slim to none, he just wanted to be in the streets.

Smartest part about Marlo was he was listening instead of trying to talk. That shyt is business 101. Vito in the Godfather was like "I spoil my children, they talk when they should be listening" because its the truth. The collection of Information can and usually does decide who wins and loses when it comes to business.

Stringer made a lot of assumptions in that clip and Marlo didn't confirm anything, so Stringer thought he was slow. Same thing with Prop Joe who always thought he was smarter than everyone else all he did was talk and Marlo just stayed quiet and learned and eventually found out Prop's weakness was him letting his guard down around his punk nephew.

The thing I don't understand about the wire is.... they never tried to go after the greeks beyond season 2.

And maybe it was because they were in west Baltimore but... How the hell didn't Lester and them find about about the co-op Prop Joe was the one they should've been going after. I guess they really only cared about the murders

the Greeks were too deep in the game breh, they ain't even Greek

and they did go after Prop Joe but they couldn't find anything on him so they went back after Stringer

Stringer was street smart.. you don't build a multimillion dollar drug cartel, owning half an entire city for years... with them never even hearing of the boss, let alone getting a picture of him... with absolutely no street smarts

what he TRIED to do was flip that and think "i'm a smart nikka, let me get that business degree and become a business man"

when he got to where stringer was, the lawyer told him "Don't ever talk to these guys without me there" same thing he told stringer AFTER stringer got fukked over "why would you go do these deals without me there"

Marlo hated that.. that he was powerless now.. that he was just the king and now he was a pawn.. he didn't know that game.. but unlike String, he realized he didn't belong there

and then where does he go... ALONE... back to the block.. and shows what he never showed the whole series... that he was a thoro nikka. it wasn't his muscle that got him on.. he was crazy his damn self and willing to go for self.. going against a nikka with a knife and a gun and coming off with both of them.. and then he finally smiles... like "yea! that power makes me happy"

that's baltimore and drugs in general... leave the white people alone at the top and go after petty dealers and local kingpins.. they ain't really trying to get that rich white dude who's bringing it off the boat...

and like real life... the reason they never got the greeks cause they were federal informants. they went after them multiple times and always missed them. cause the fed dude would always call them up and give them heads up... and in turn, the greeks gave that fed dude crates of herion to boost his career
