I just found something interesting. No artist under 30 in Rap or RnB is popping like that. Is Gen Z the most talentless generation??

Nobody under the age of 35 cares about record sales because nobody is going out and buying CDs, sitting at home and staring out the window while they listen to music for an hour+. Vinyl collections and CD binders aren't something you'll find in a 25 year old's home.

Music is consumed and experienced differently now. People are subscribed to streaming services so an artists success is now measured in monthly listeners and venues they sell out.

Meg drops a song, it goes viral on streaming platforms. Whether it gets played at the grocery store or bank is irrelevant because most people spending money on concert tickets and merchandise are streaming that music on their platforms of choice.

I'm not expecting Normani, for example, to be doing a million in a week but less than 20k???

She currently has the same amount of monthly listeners on Spotify as Destiny Child who haven't released a new album in 20 years...13 mill

Majority of Spotify users are under the age of 35 and probably don't know Destiny Child started with 4 members

Even when you take away physical sales of a Taylor Swift, Drake, Nicki, etc their new releases are putting up bigger streaming numbers than most their Gen Z counterparts

Normani has been managed terribly, whole team needs to go. She was hot 4 years ago and only now dropped her first album with seemingly little promo.

Ive been telling mfs this for awhile lmao

Gen Z and lower is for the most part absolutely terrible at making music. Talented in other arts and stuff though, they just can't get music.
They took the instruments out the schools, tech took over, and everything that can be done has been done in hip hop.

The Bar for music has been low and declining now for years.

It will only get worse.

Most of the "Singers" Can NOT Sing, same with the NON-Rapping, Mumbling, Autotuned "Rappers".

The Younger generation grew up on trash music, so that is what they are accustomed to.

We need a cultural music "Renaissance".
Insert this post into the future is better than 50 thread :russ:

OP literally said Megan Thee Stallion isn't popping like that.
:snoop:

OP is out of touch and out of the loop.
Ehhh she’s shoved down our throats and only doing 63K first week with bots helping her run up the numbers.

She’s a star persona but her music isn’t hitting like that.

Megan is not on Missy's level.

Missy had no problem dropping hits constantly, and all her albums went plat.

Missy never had a Billboard #1 hit. Meagan has had several.

Plus Missy has way more albums so comparing albums makes zero sense. Megan has 3, Missy has 6. In order for it to make sense we'd have to wait for Megan to drop 3 more albums to compare.
Also....I didn't compare albums, like you did, I compared eras and Megan in this era is as big as Missy was in the 20000's.

:duck:

1) Megan literally had this era repeating the term "Hot Girl Summer" FACT

2) Beyonce jumped on Megans song Savage to do the remix, not the other way around. Because that song was super big. FACT

3) Tik Tok is the new wave and Megans music has been a dominant factor on Tik Tok. One example....That "Body yady yody yody yody yody" song was everywhere and all over Tik Tok.

4) Cardi B and Megan made WAP a popular term

5) Just this year alone "Hiss" became the 1st Billboard #1 diss record in Hip Hop history before Kendrick.

6) She has countless Billboard #1s

These 6 facts confirm that you sir are seriously out of the loop and don't know what you are talking about.

The Wrong Side of the Tracks

"Hot Boyz" is a song by American hip hop recording artist Missy Elliott featuring American rapper and singer-songwriter Lil' Mo. The remix version of the song was an urban hit featuring Nas, Eve and Q-Tip. The remix broke the record for most weeks at number-one on the US R&B chart on the issue dated January 15, 2000; as well as spending 18 weeks at number one on the Hot Rap Singles from December 4, 1999, to March 25, 2000, a record not broken until "Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X in 2019.

Things have been on a steady decline since the 70's

Stevie wrote Innervisions when he was barely old enough to drink and that album is a masterpiece

With each generation the artisty gets thinner and thinner, they losing the recipes.

Obviously you don't know the difference between Billboard #1 and R&B #1.

Megan got a bunch of those R&B/Hip Hop #1s as well but she also has Billboard 100 #1s and Missy has zero. I specified, Billboard #1s silly, read it again.
