The reason it sucked is because there were actual "hyphy" songs being made, but it wasn't some movement nikkas were trying to put together, then MTV jams and sway and them started trying to call it a movement and that faux declaration opened the flood gates to shytty songs. I'm mad cuz it made that word a pariah as well, we used to always talk about nikkas being too hyphy in Oakland pre-2005, then after that, it anihilated a word from our vocab.

But super hyphy and white blue jeans and nikes still go!

and at the same time, you had San Quinn,Messy Marv,Jacka,Balance, Big Rich, Ya Boy, Bailey all making non-hyphy music.

nikka, you just said that you didn't even listen to the radio since 1996 just a few posts ago..and that you only heard your brother listening to that shyt constantly when you lived with your mom.

but now it was all over the radio 24/7 right?

This is the other issue with those couple of years, everything from the bay got swept under the "hyphy" umbrella when it was anything but

People dissing the hyphy shyt. It had its moments. It was a fun time in the bay then. The clubs was fun, and 40 had the ambassador lounge in San Jose and it was always smacking. But it was only just a sub culture of bay rap. Cats was still bumping Quinn, the jacka, and others.

What's also funny is how I hear wiz Khalifa and y.g. Rapping over recycled bay hyphy sounds.

Gotta co-sign this, that era coincided with ambassador lounge and made for one of the most memorable times in the bay

man ghostriding the whip was one of the biggest failures in hip hop history to this day.

Ghost Ride The Truck - YouTube

:stopitslime:

1. How you gonna post some rural pickup truck driving cac as an example of ghost riding?

2. Secondly, people posted plenty of examples of where ghostriding and doors open came from, it had nothing to do with music and came from what is one of the most iconic events in the bay, some real street shyt...the sideshow, the sideshow went strong from like 89-03 (post 03 that shyt just became a shoot out or a place to get your car stomped out lol), it was our car culture

Can you really call that an era? Maybe where it came from but cats weren't all that crazy about it on this side

Aww man, that Tyc00n shyt by Mac Dre was soooo tough. The first time I heard it was at Ambassador and damn, men and women alike used to go so dumb to those songs, plus Im On One by The Team. ambassador was ghetto fab at its finest.

Where do hood nikkas party now? I remember @17th, Arsimona, zazoo's, and Jeffry's begging the spots thru about 07, but three of those are closed and one doesn't pop like that, I'm like where are the classic hood clubs now?

Man, all my bay club memories are coming back - 330 Ritch, loft 11, mission bay, jillians, levende, air lounge, the original golden bear, easy lounge, lucky's, Willie mays skybox lounge, kitty's
