And I don't have a thought on 40 doin hyphy cuz he been doin hyphy,u can say it wuz corny for him to try to start reppin the culture young nikkas in the streets wuShaz livin at the time....but what young nikkas in the town is doin ain't exclusive to Dre,Dre just took it upon himself to do it when the old heads stayed in they lane....so it wuz weird when 40 started reppin for the young cats as a old school artist as well as too short but neither sharked dres style so I t wuznt a crime to me,its basically what Cube did when he tried to get the young nikkas by gettin on the gfunk wave rappin about young nikka shyt.....long as he did it well I didn't give a shyt,I luved certain shyt don mega cube wuz doin

Guess "hyphy" is back now tho,but nikkas gon pretend this new shyt is hot and different from hyphy tho I bet.

There was no "Hyphy era" in hip hop.

Hyphy was nothing more than a bubbling Bay Area sub-scene that MTV thought they could make a buncha dollars off of cause of how "different" and youth driven it was.

MTV made it seem like Hyphy was some shyt the ENTIRE west was on, when in reality it wasn't even the biggest shyt in the Bay at that time.

People dissing the hyphy shyt. It had its moments. It was a fun time in the bay then. The clubs was fun, and 40 had the ambassador lounge in San Jose and it was always smacking. But it was only just a sub culture of bay rap. Cats was still bumping Quinn, the jacka, and others.

What's also funny is how I hear wiz Khalifa and y.g. Rapping over recycled bay hyphy sounds.

The SF anthem repped Frisco to the fullest. So many of my nyggaz are in this video. Every turf was represented, my nygga Boo Banger, my nikka Strickland was in the video, he was on the 9ers at the time. Cellski, andre Nikatina, Guce, hella fillmoe and hunters point nyggaz was on here too.

I think I've heard function music,,I'm not sure..but it doesn't sound nothing like HYPHY..HYPHY is where they're rapping like:

It basically sounds like a backyard Mexican house party where the mexicans are screaming to the music drunk off Modelos and Tecates...Tyga doesn't rap like that..and im pretty sure those other function rappers don't rap like that..

The Hyphy "movement" wasnt really new tho. We been out here doin all that "hyphy shyt" even before the term hyphy came about. I remember bein a lil nygga and hittin the sideshows in Oakland with my older uncles & cousins back in the 90s. Cats would be swangin their whips, hangin out the window, doors open and shyt. (The energy was the same)

Granted some of the music that was droppin during the actual hyphy movement was wack. But then again, alot of good music came out and the overall vibe and atmosphere in the Bay at that time was epic. If you were in the bay during that time: whether u were in HS, college or even older u knew about the power of the hyphy movement.

If u were at a party and thee songs came on. MFs would be goin dummy in that bytch

I was in the pen for some of the HYPHY era and when I got out all I can remember is listening to the game, lupe and of course hiero..

It never had chance to grow from it's original sound when you had bay artist dropping albums like "Counting Other Peoples Money' 'I Give You My Word' 'Disobayish", etc.. the sound that had a huge mob sound to it but made small references to the "movement'.

It quickly turned to shyt when Mac Dre died and then MTV jumped on the movement and every generic rapper from the bay came out with some wack variation of a Mac Dre song ("Go Stupid", 'Feelin Myself, etc.) and pretty much redefined the sound and turned into a corny gimmick.
