Upping.

I'm about to put together a list of shyt I'm looking into. I have like a million tabs open right now looking over threads on here and stuff some of you guys linked to.

One question I have though, I'm going to build a PC mainly for media purposes. Managing my media and a lot of downloading, photo processing/editing will be done on it. I'm not into video editing stuff (yet) but I want to have something capable of that as well. Since I know this thing will be a media hub for me, what would the benefit be of making an HTPC along with it? Or would that be overkill?

Let me know brehs

making it a "HTPC" basically just means it has a HDMI output. that's pretty standard now

Cool I'm putting it together on PCPartPicker. What should I do about the Sound Card, power supply and Optical Drive?

This has me looking like :dwillhuh:

I'm going to go by price and see what happens. I guess yal can let me know if it's trash when I list what I come up with.

Yeah, I'm going to price this stuff after I come up with a decent list.

if i can do it, you should have no problems. I ordered all the shyt online.

Came within a week. And took me about 3-4 hours putting it all together. Didn't have to do much else for the system to work.

I was reading online of all the shyt that can go wrong and I was expecting the worst, but it went better than i thought it would.

My advice, don't cheap out on the MB, the graphics card or the Processor. I got the 2500K with a 6870 Radeon HD and Asus MB Z68.

Make sure you check well in advance that your MB and processor are compatible with each other.

What about the Sound Card?

I see you got that graphics card for cheaper than what it's going for now. (it's like 192 on the PC building site and 159 on Amazon I believe)

EDIT: Nevermind, I think I found the one you have.

Here's what I came up with so far...

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor = 219.99
Cooler: Arctic Cooling ACFZ11-LP Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler = 29.99
Motherboard: ASRock B75 PRO3-M Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard = 77.55
Memory: Corsair XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory = 37.99
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive = 94.99
Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk = 94.95
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon HD 6850 1GB Video Card = 139.99
Sound Card: Creative Labs Audigy SE 24-bit 96 KHz Sound Card = 23.99
Case: NZXT Gamma Classic (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case = 34.99
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 430W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V Power Supply = 34.99 with rebate
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer = 17.99

Total = 807.41

Let me know what's overkill and what I can shave off to cut the price even more. I don't know what a good case is so I just picked something I found on Amazon. Also, if you know of any of this stuff on sale, or if stuff will be on sale on Black Friday let me know.

I didn't even include a monitor or an OS :snoop:

But I figure I can find a decent one with the Black Friday sales coming up.

Also, Windows 8? or 7 for this?

I would get the 6870 and dump the optical drive unless you are getting blu-ray
