Another question...

What are the pros and cons of using a smaller HDTV as a monitor for this? I want to be able to hook up another device to the display without having to switch out cables/HDMI slots.

Are yal using VGA or HDMI for yal setups? I see some deals on some monitors in the 24in to 27in range, but do these usually only have 1 HDMI input? Would it be worth copping a cheap 32in HDTV and running with that?

that 6870 has 2 dvi and a hdmi port (vga is old school btw). dvi and hdmi are pretty much the same thing (they're interchangeable with a simple converter that looses no quality), so it really has 3 HD connections, and can probably support multiple monitors

what size monitor you get depends on your set-up, and how far you plan on sitting from it. you definitely want something that supports 1080p, or higher (I say that because I know a lot of those smaller HDTV are only 720p). most modern monitors and HDTV's have more than one input

Yeah, that's what I noticed about the 32in HDTVs, the're all at 720p.

I'm not going to be sitting too far from it. It's going to be in an office for the time being.

And it just slipped my mind, but I plan on doing photo editing on this and forgot about the SD Card input options.

:snoop:

That's something that's motherboard related right?

if it's at a desk, you probably don't want anything bigger than 24"

edit: one thing to remember with LCD monitors is that you're tied to your 'native resolution'. back in the day with CRT monitors it was easy to switch the resolution to adjust performance. but with LCD, anything less than the native resolution will be scaled, and honestly looks like crap (it's blurry cause you're not getting a pixel for pixel image). for that reason you really have to stick with your native resolution and adjust other things. this is something to keep in mind if you get a monitor that has a native resolution that's higher than 1080p. if your monitor has a very high native resolution, you're gonna need a powerful gpu to push it

well most mobo's support it, but it's more of a question of the case having space for it. honestly I think it's easier to just buy a usb card reader

What size fans do you guys have/recommend?

The case that I'm looking at has 120mm that comes with it. Should I get the same size or smaller?

These are 5 bucks right now...

I have two 120mm and two 80mm and it kept things cool.

Once you are in the pc building game you will always be around...be careful always wanting to upgrade or tinker around...this can get pricey QUICK

I can tell.

I won't go too overboard. I'm just getting my feet wet right now.

Kingwin CFBL-08LB LED Case Fan - 80mm, Blue at TigerDirect.com

Trash, get yourself a couple Yate Loons.

Yate Loon 120mm D12SM-12 Medium Speed Case Fan 70CFM 33dBA at SVC.com

Be sure to set up the air flow in your case so that you have positive pressure (more air going in that out). This helps create a dust free environment in your case.

The Builder series is Plus Bronze while the Gamer series is just Plus.

Not a big deal?
