How could "True Detective" have had such a massive falloff?

I haven't watched season 2 and have almost no desire to since Harrelson and McConaughey aren't invovled. The cast itself just looked so :scust: by comparison.
I was gonna say it was decent, but then I was reminded by how shytty the ending was. Nic had such limited time to write it in comparison to the first season, that in itself was a big red flag. I'm on HBO's side on this one. Nic needs to hire his own staff of writers....oh, and bring back Cary.

The only good thing about Season 2 was the music to be honest.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
matthew mcconaughey wasn't around to make the absurd dialogue sound cool.
its all about the country accent and setting

those backward ass, crazy ass, off the cuff sayings were magical... cause it came with this old school, southern drawl, that made you think it was some old wisdom from his granny or some shyt (this town looks like a picture of this town that's fading away from someone's memory)

sounds cool in an old school dusty louisiana town

now current ass LA... with LA mobsters.... talking bout some water marks on the ceiling, and going into a 15 min speech about dad... all to come back to b-b-b-b-b-but how'd i let those marks get there

fukking sounds stupid and out of touch with how a gangster would speak

the writer was the writer.... but you can't blanket write that shyt for each and every character

Season one had a better story that was easier to follow and had an understandable conclusion. Season 2 was all over the place, the story and the characters actions were too confusing.

Season 1 was cool because of the tone and the acting. The way the story progressed with the timelines was cool too. The story itself though? Kind of dumb. Lots of hinting and babbling about the universe but the actors made it mysterious and cool. I never finished Season 2 because after like 2-3 episodes I decided it sucked and wasn't even entertaining so why continue?

Pretty ridiculous to say Pizzolatto's writing had nothing to do with Season 1 being good when the whole reason McConaughey took the part in the first place (which directly led to Harrelson joining as well) was because of how much he liked the writing and tone of the scripts. If I'm remembering right he called it the best writing he's ever seen.
