Same reason most rappers first albums tend to be their best: it's the realization of years of thought and preparation. Season two was a single years worth of formation and it showed. It's an anthology series so it's essentially like writing a book about something completely different than your first book as opposed to writing a book that's part of a series. You're creating a completely new plot, with new characters in a new setting. Pizzalato nailed it with his first attempt but faltered with his second. I think a few years off to work on a new story, or a few new stories, would be the best thing to do.

This is just nonsense.

You cant have a great show in spite of the guy who wrote the entire show.

That doesnt even make sense.

The acting, writing and directing was all top notch in s1. The writing absolutely is part of what made it special.

I disagree. Rust's character was poorly written and the acting elevated it to something interesting. Marty was a walking cop show cliche (just like Ray in season 2) with a fantastic actor working that part. The mystery was ended up being pretty boring considering all the potential showed in episodes 4-7. There were also a good number of stupid coincidences for a show that clearly thought of itself as intricately plotted.

I enjoyed them both, differently....like the first two seasons of the wire. The first was so good, that no matter what he did, season 2 would be a let down. I do think the writing took a hit in season 2, but I still enjoyed it. Matt and Woody were just so great, plus we got
