It's so hilarious how the only two teams in the last 12 years to win a championship while being near the bottom of the league in 3-pointers were led by two players the Coli hates - LeBron and Jokic. A perfect encapsulation of how this board doesn't know what they want or what they're talking about :lolbron:

This nikka be in here saying anything :mjlol:

Defense is NOT better than it’s ever been, in fact it’s the worst it’s ever been in any era

The NBA in fact mandated open nba play “free flowing”, the league changed so many rules to favor offense and also handcuffed the defense

The game is unbalanced and that’s why nobody wanna watch the shyt

Not sure why you being dishonest with mentioning Jokic when it’s clear you just want to get your shyt off :mjlol:
You're aware that defensive ratings is literally measure of points scored per 100 possessions by the opposing team, right? Average offensive and defensive ratings per season are literally exactly the same because they're measuring the same thing - points scored per 100. You can just as easily say defensive ratings were high in the 70s because offense sucked.

You know what happens when I change your statmuse link to "best offensive ratings by decade"

LITERALLY THE SAME fukkING NUMBERS BECAUSE THEY'RE THE SAME THING. :russ:

The actual measure of defensive prowess is team-by-team defensive ratings relative to the league.

It's always so hilarious when y'all try to bring advanced stats into conversations while not even having a remedial understanding of how they work. Can't stand y'all old nikkas.

Whenever I see people complain about today’s defense I wonder if they have watched a game from the 80s or 90s recently. Defense was infinitely easier to play back then. You had guys spotting up from 15 feet, could just go under every screen, and offensive actions were super primitive compared to what teams are doing now.

Even with time to adjust, those all time great defenses would be lost trying to guard everything offenses are doing now.
Handchecking and contested fadeaways :blessed:

I think sports betting has a lot to do with the "state of the NBA" for fans along with new media and how it's consumed

When I was a kid, I used to collect sports cards, watch games and do play by play commentary, recreate moments at the crib, just for the love of the game. Now, you have teenagers that are wrapped up in betting on teams/players, they don't care about the beauty of the game or the style of play variance, they only care if their parlay hits.

Going even deeper, you have some people betting that don't even watch the games, just the box scores etc.

Add in social media and the nature of highlights and clipping the must see moments for fast consumption the result is a less invested fan in the product. There are entire mini-economies built off of each team online and locally. With so much content out there for just YOUR team, the cycle in which a die hard NBA fan endures seems to be overwhelming

Appealing to whom?

It's already as popular as ever.

Or do you mean make the NBA more appealing to old heads on this board?

The problem with that is, I don't think cats really know what they want from the NBA on here. Barring getting rid of all the international players and putting a limit on how many 3s a team can attempt during each game, I think they probably would still find a way to complain about it. Their childhood heroes no longer play anymore, and the NBA is built on star players, so I don't know if they'll ever be content with the product given that.

If you take a look around at the folks who have an avatar of an NBA player, 90+% of them are of players from the past.
I’m asking you. What would you change about the NBA today?

Jokic is probably one of the few things right about the league. I'm just glad JJ Redikk ain't his coach, he'd probably tell him he needs to shoot 10+ 3 pointers a game because of analytics. I like that Jokic will gladly take a midrange shot.

I recently saw a game where the Lakers and Suns missed a bunch of threes in a three minutes timespan.:hhh:
