This nikka posting all sorts of stupid shyt now …

Social media and YouTube video clips is not nba game viewership
You should probably take my argument and listed evidence in its entirety instead of cherry-picking a part of it to argue a strawman. Social media and YouTube is a greater scale of viewership than TV ratings are.

Just because you can't deal with facts doesn't make it "stupid shyt".

The world is moving on and leaving y'all cats behind. You either keep complaining like some bytch ass nxggas or get with the program.

@Gil Scott-Heroin since youre typing essays my boy

What about the influence of referees on the game?

This is the main turnoff for me as well as a leading reason teams focus so heavily on shooting threes.

Replay review and camera angles have magnified the influence of referees to the point where you can clearly see how they decide a close game.

And with the growth of gambling it makes it even harder to believe in what I'm watching.

Except it's not based on "TV", well, not in the way you're trying to infer.

This media rights deal has expanded onto streaming services that linear TV doesn't provide (it has increased its broadcast games to 75).
The new media deals will expand the reach of NBA telecasts, with all national games available on broadly distributed streaming services – Prime Video, Peacock and ESPN’s forthcoming direct-to-consumer service – and with dramatically increased exposure on broadcast television. Approximately 75 regular-season games will be on broadcast TV each season, up from the minimum of 15 games under the current agreement.
And stop with this act as if you know what you're talking about, when you don't even know how to contextualize something as basic as defensive ratings. Surely you have better things to do than embarrassing yourself at every turn.

That has always been a problem -- long before this era. There's a reason why I've already stated in here I'd like to overhaul the officiating system.

Y'all cats on here just need to be honest with yourselves.

You're the same ones who said a jump-shooting team couldn't win a title back in 2015, and when it was proven over and over again that a team could play that way and win a championship, that's when y'all started to turn sour on the league, because not only were y'all proven wrong, but the game that you thought y'all knew didn't exist anymore. All the conventional wisdoms y'all had about the game were flipped on its head.

Y'all kept waiting for the league to go back to 'normal' and it never did.

To now where y'all just mad that the game has changed and left y'all behind; y'all have essentially picked up your ball and headed back to the crib. Too cotdamn proud to admit that y'all were wrong, using an excuse of the game being "boring" now.

It's only boring because y'all didn't have the last laugh.

I remember dumbass muh'fukkas back in 2015 who said the '3-pt fad' wouldn't last long because you can't win shooting 3s, and yet here we are a whole decade later, and it's become the new normal.

10 years of watching something y'all don't understand and getting mad about it. Lord have mercy.

Besides steph and the warriors, what champion (besides last years Celtics) won a title being a team that heavily relied on 3pt shooting?

You have
2016 Cavs
2019 Raptors
2020 Lakers
2021 Bucks
2023 Nuggets

It's going to be interesting to see what hype Cooper Flagg can generate this year, and then how that corresponds to the perception of how fans see the NBA going forward. It seems folks don't care for the fact that the NBA has increased in popularity, maybe they might change their minds if a homegrown [white] superstar enters the frame.

Funny thing about Flagg is his popularity and hype will be nuanced based on where he goes....If he goes to an undesirable market you will see the disingenuous takes from Day 1.....

I think youre taking the wrong approach on this whole topic. I used to consume NBA at a pretty high level: watching full games (outside of my team), interested in big matchups, checking for specific players/teams, seeking out analysis/reactions/breakdowns, closely following all the player movement with trade talks / free agency, etc, etc

now, I could give two shyts. Ill check in on the Bulls still as some lifelong allegiance thing, but I dont have the desire to watch all their games. I dont find myself ever interested in putting on a non Bulls games. I couldnt tell you one matchup that would catch my eye enough that I would seek the game out, I dont keep up with the league in any meaningful fashion. I dont care to consume ANY of the media surrounding the NBA. I find it all incredibly boring and non consequential. People around me feel the exact same way. I dont know anyone that follows the league like that anymore. TV ratings tell me the same thing, people arent watching games. National ratings have plummeted and there is a crisis going on with local TV deals. You can blame cord cutting or whatever else, but its pretty clear that people just arent watching GAMES anymore. There is so much content out there these days, and people have put the NBA aside for other things. I cant stress enough how much of this sentiment is shared amongst nearly everyone I talk to IRL too, its basically universal around me. And I see it more and more online too. Its real, and it should be concerning for the NBA.

also I couldnt feel any differently about football --- I find the games interesting, competitive and have a strong desire to watch and keep up with everything going on in the league

@Gil Scott-Heroin you have a strong reaction to this topic obviously, but my feelings are not me being disingenuous. At my core, I find the whole thing BORING, period. I dont really need much more justification beyond that as a consumer -- and its very evident to me I am not in the minority. I think the league should be concerned why so many people feel that way.
You can see it on here, The NBa use to dominate thecoli sport discussions. The NBA convos on here have lost all sorts of juice
The problem isn't the talent, the problem is the fact the league can't shake how insignificant the regular season feels. Teams don't seem to care
This is The problem. Fans Don’t care about the regular season and they feel like the players don’t care.

I honestly don’t know what can be done atp

You can’t expect American fans to care for a foreign player on that level. NON Denver fans and NBA Stan’s are going to buy into the hype of a foreign player

You talked about the officiating being a problem i think you hit on another problem with the modern era of the NBA and that is how bad the media is in how it covers the game and players...The agendas pushed by the casual fan are compounded by the media's ignorance.Alot of the bullshyt agendas you see in here are also displayed on ESPN/FOX 1 about the same players/teams...

Bumping this thread because I see more cats talking about the NBA decline is due to not having post play and midrange shots.

Well, how come I never see y'all talking about Jokic, or advocating that the league should have more players like him? How come he isn't your guy?
