lol. you never know chit about chit.

Ginuwine could sing and dance his ass off. lol @ him being carried by production. in fact, just about all of his classic slow jams came AFTER he stopped working with timbaland.

if anybody was carried, it was usher. a marginal vocalist who struggled before he got with JD, and struggled so bad after he stopped working with JD, that he had to start making blatant sellout pop music to stay afloat.

solo hits? Devante never sung lead in his life breh. hes a producer/background singer in jodeci.

what do you mean by mainstream? POP music? this is r&b breh. he was the leader of multi-platinum group and banged out hits for other artists.

his run was LEGENDARY. and if he didn't lose his mind, he would've been in the running for GOAT.

do ya googles.
when did usher stop fukkin wit JD?

He should have been bigger. His biggest problem to me was a lot of his songs were watered down and boring (singles-wise) outside of Pony. Timbaland was giving his best beats to Aaliyah and kinda brought his C-game for G.

But I will say that the first time I heard pony was in the car with my cousin and uncle we jammed that so loud...nothing musically had ever sounded like that before.
Nall...maybe on some after the fact death reverence for alliyah...but missy and ginuwines albums slapped harder and aged better than alliyahs (albums as a whole)

Even though I think it was partly because of them trying to feel out an identity for her one in a million album was on some bootleg Monica type shyt

I think my opinion has changed a bit over time looking back in this thread.

Bout time usher got into his 8701 era I think it was clear that usher had taken a big step as a performer & vocalist that ginuwine never took.

usher is an average vocalist at best. vocals were never his claim to fame.

Ginuwine is clearly a better vocalist, and he can dance circles around usher.

its really not even a debate concerning whose more talented.

Lmao the same people who were buying his albums were watching those shows...didn't introduce him to a bigger audience

pretty much......altho, I don't know what "martial law" is.

pony was basically Ginuwine's crossover moment outside of r&b and that song seems to be timeless.

when did usher stop fukkin wit JD?

after confessions.

In addition to singing and dancing, Ginuwine is an accomplished songwriter. G wrote "Differences" and he wrote "Miss U" for Aaliyah.

Nah flip the names & you would be right.

Anybody with eyes & ears can tell that usher is more talented than ginuwine.

How big do you want Ginuwine to be? he just didn't have that crossover appeal or those uptempo tracks. Listen I love slow jams but if you limit yourself to being a slow jam artist only- YOU WON'T WIN. TRey songz tried this formula and didn't start winning until he came out with Say Ahh. Usher got plenty of uptempo jams.

This.

Basically, Ginuwine reached his threshold with The Bachelor and 100% album wise. There was really nothing else he could've done to be bigger than he was. He could've continued to make more generic songs like "Hell Yeah", but G ain't really have a formula.

It's really unfair to compare him to Usher. Usher was a child star who grew bigger with each album. He had some bumps in the road transitioning. His debut flopped and his follow up to My Way was head toward a flop after "Pop Ya Collar" flopped. The label re-worked U Turn into 8701 led by the Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis produced "U Remind Me". That song and "U Got It Bad" was the bridge between teen sensation and a legit grown-up superstar.

I grew up on both & like both artists.

Your disdain for usher is cringeworthy. No way you're knowledgeable on r&b disrespecting one of the GOATs.:hhh:

Average singer at best:duck:

Usher is a great vocalist & all around performer.

20+ years homie of hits, classics, memborable performances, & respect from the OGs to the younger generation.

Ginuwine is a good singer I give him that, but he was just the one of the many "good singers" that were in the game back when R&B was in it's prime. I can bring up a bunch of underrated R&B singers, e.g. TQ, Ali, and even Mario (who is a one-hit wonder).

Mario got more then 1 hit
